On a new lease I am considering, I may end up,with the 20" tire option. Anyone knows what should the tire insurance cost from a dealer? Is the insurance from BMW or a different seller?
I know I can ask this from the dealer, but I want to have an idea of the real cost.
When I was at the F&I desk, I kept rejecting ALL extras. As I knew I'd want to replace the optional 19s and RFTs. But he offered me 1495 then 999.99 for 3 years. I of course did not take it, but something to give you an idea.
I've always negotiated this price...the most I've ever paid was $1100 for 3 years. Price also depends upon where you live. Prices likely will be higher in urban east, northeast, and north central areas. I would recommend this insurance if you're staying with the 20" wheels.
I declined it. $899 for 5 years. Nothing happens. You need two flats to come ahead and you are replacing tires every 18 months anyway. I will replace mine with non-runflats in 1 years and be done with these noisy RFTs.
Back when I had my `08 M6 convertible, a set of 20" Michelin Pilots would run me about $2100...I did the original plus 2 sets with that car; all on account of tread wear (no flats or tire damage). I replaced 3 run flat tires (Bridgestones) on my first 6 Series car...insurance paid for all three (flats); I think they would have cost me around $400 a-piece. I had 19s" on my `11 7 Series and never had any problems with them.
I am confused about this thread. I am picking up my new 2013 750i with MSport this weekend. Are you all saying don't get tire insurance, even for $1000, because we will be replacing the tires anyway with nonrunflats? Are you saying those are less than $250 a piece?? I have a Lexus now with no special tires but I can tell you that when I replaced my tires with cheapo ones, it still cost me over $1000 to do all 4.
So if I drive low miles (under 10,000), it sounds like I will likely need to replace my tires at least once in a 3 year lease, right? So why not get the insurance? Or are we splitting hairs on like $50?
I've had my 750i for 6 months and I've gone through two tires already ($1200).....NYC roads. My insurance is for 5 years and was about $2500 for 5 years. Will definitely pay for itself in the long run.....It seems like the prices are a lot cheaper outside of NYC but that makes sense given the increased claim numbers they get around here.
If you are planning to keep the shallow 20" RFTs on the vehicle, then DEFINITELY, I repeat, DEFINITELY get the tire/wheel insurance from some carrier (BMW or otherwise). I am at the end of my 3 year lease and have gone through no fewer than 11 tire replacements, either because the sidewalls experienced severe "bubbling" or a complete failure. Again, NYC roads are to blame. Damage only occurs on the front (narrower) tires.
Thanks to all. I will definitely get the insurance. For 3 years the "retail" original ask price is $1,850. I am near closing on a car and dealer is down to $1,250 on the insurance.
