I'm thinking to buy warranty for my 2011 335 is. The car has 40k miles and the warranty costs 6k, this include maintenance. The 6k warranty is up to 100k miles or 2 years. What's your advice ? Does it worth or not really?

I bought the BMW Platinum extended 7/70,000 mile warranty for my 2011 335is at a cost of $2,800. I was able to negotiate a deal since I was also buying one for my wife's 535xi. $6,000 is insane money.

To give you another example, when I bought my new Porsche in August/2012, I bought their platinum 7/70,000 mile extended warranty for $3,000.

i called many dealers and the cheapest one i found is 3500$ and that doesn't include maintenance. There are many type of warranties, the 6k one cover everything. I'm thinking if a 2011 car could make any problem until 100k miles. I usually put 5-7k miles every month. i had 335i 2007 before and never had any problem except with turbos but the car can run without that

Maintenance is a separate policy from BMW. I don't think it's worth it for a 335is. Maybe for an M3 since it covers brakes and the clutch which are expensive on that car.

With any extended plan, be it for repairs or maintenance, you're "Betting Against the House". This is what happens every time you place a bet on a roulette wheel. Some people make out. Most do not. The house knows the odds and sets the payouts accordingly. Quick - what are the biggest, brightest buildings on The Strip in Las Vegas? Obviously, the casinos. And they didn't get that way by losing money to most of the players.

Same deal with extended warranty and maintenance plans. You don't have all the information to do a cost/benefit analysis with any meaning. However, if it's a BMW plan, there is an entity that does have the information - BMW. They have the repair frequency information you do not have, as well as the estimated repair costs. Using that information, they set the sales cost of the plan above that number so they get some profit. If purchased through a dealer. the dealers then adds on profit of his own. Guess who's paying for everyone else's profit.

Assuming that the seller (BMW or 3rd party) knows how to price the plan being sold, on average, you will lose out. Some people will get "lucky" - their cars will suffer an unexpected failure, and the plan will benefit them. Kind of like buying life insurance - you're betting the insurance company that you're going to die before they think you will.

You need to make your own call. You have to ask yourself "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya?

As stated above, your HPFP and turbos have extended coverage so why pay such a steep price for a couple years coverage. I'd say no way, save the cash for when something actually goes wrong. Do minor services at ind shops or just DIY if so inclined and save even more.
