Checking dealerships around Los Angeles. Install prices for a tow hitch average around $850-900 (no including the cost of the kit) Does anyone know of any deals or discounts.
I would trust a hitch installation from a So Cal hitch specialist - not BMW.
My last 2 hitch installations were done by Rack N Road in Costa Mesa call them @ 800-722-5872
They did a beautiful job on my 2002 X5 and 2007 328xi when I owned them.
Much more reasonable in labor & hitch cost (I used Curt Mfg for both) plus they do the electronics (trailer lighting & wiring) with the correct isolators to prevent bulb error messages.
I would love one on my current X5 but it is leased.

I had mine done in Northern CA at a BMW independent for $350 or so if I recall correctly including programming. Reno Dealer quoted me more than your dealer did, but no surprise; they are taking advantage of no competition everywhere they can.
They spent a lot of time on it, probably more than they anticipated but they stood by their initial quote.
