My automatic trunk never seems to work when I try the below the rear bumper foot activation. Is anybody else having this problem? It maybe works 1/10 times I attempt it.
Are you moving your leg side to side or forward and back?
In my experience, the best thing is to kick right under the BMW logo, as if you're kicking a soccer ball. I'd say it works 9/10 times (can't remember when it didn't actually...).
After trying out various foot actions below the rear bumper (now the neighbours must think I'm crazy), I find the foot movement with the highest rate of success is to slide the foot across just below the bumper. I am now so confident of it working that to close the trunk, after I slide my foot across, I can walk away with certainty of success without looking back.
Demas, you will not look like an idiot unless you also holler, "Open sesame!"
I also had trouble with it for a while, until I figured out the precise motion it wants.
But, since we're talking about it - why can't you close the trunk the same way? When I have picked up the 12 grocery bags out of the trunk and have no hands to use - that's when I need the feature. Probably some safety thing.
Does any one know exactly where the sensor is? Sounds like its right under the license plate, but I haven't crawled down to look and see. I have tried only once because I don't want to continually kick the under the car like I have a leg cramp.
Try standing back from the rear bumper a little. If your shin is making contact with the bumper when you kick, it can prevent your foot from getting as far under the car as it needs to go. Worked for me, hope it helps you.
But well, it is like a bunch of housewives complaining about the quality of diapers.
Come on get serious, do not buy a car for this sort of marketing stuff.
And when you do by mistake, hush it up!
Don't get caught; :bareass:
I would agree is it a gimmick, but don't use it as a selling point if it doesn't work. I do enjoy passing MB, Audi's, Jaguars and other sad vehicles who try to challenge me on the highway. But I also like a little trick here or there to wow by standers or other's I'm trying to convert to BMW drivers.
1. The sensor is pretty wide actually, easily visible if you simply look just under the center area of the rear bumper
2. The kick should be able to be done without much thought -- mine has never failed to open with a casual movement of my foot under the center area of the bumper
3. I thought it was a "dumb" feature too, but since it is part of the Premium Package, I now find it pretty convenient as yet another way of opening the trunk
4. Only F10's with the Premium Package have this feature
Comfort Access is in the Premium Package for 528s & 535s. In the Executive Package for 550s. I think it's now even standard on 550s.
I didn't know that for 2014 Comfort Access supported closing the trunk too. I wish my 2013 did. Will keep an eye out for coding. Yes it seems silly at first, but when you take two hands worth of stuff out of the trunk it'd be great to have it close with a kick instead of either reaching up while holding a bag of groceries, or putting them down first.
If memory serves, when I shopped model year 2014 SUV market, Audi and Mercedes Benz both had open and close but disabled the close in North America. Ford and Hyundai had close. I'm glad BMW stepped up on 2014.
CA is a logical addition to the starter button; it should be included as a standard feature. Having to fish out the key to unlock the car, then hide it again (or place it in the receptacle) defeats the purpose of push button start to an extent. My fob stays in my pocket or if the laptop is with me, in its bag. No need to ever remove it to operate the car. Makes sense.
I didn't order the Premium Package on my 5, and I really have no regrets.
I've used CA and other keyless systems before; I still like to unlock my car from a distance and have the lights illuminate. There's also something about the confirmation that the car is locked when I press a button, versus rubbing my finger on the door handle ridges.
And for the trunk kicking, a friend has a 3 and it works maybe 30% of the time. We both laugh at it. I was tempted to get CA for the trunk kicking thing alone, but then when I saw how it worked in the wild, I decided to put the money towards multi-contour seats and HK and HUD and some other goodies.
As for Sirius radio...well that can (1) be coded but (2) it's crap so I don't even want to use it. Streaming Spotify via Bluetooth gives me audio I want to hear, without commercials, at much higher quality sound levels.

It works very well on the 5 once you know the sensor position. You missed out.
