Creature comforts
Weight balance
Mass (feels like it can take a hit without crushing me in the process)
Style (sexy, classy, and somewhat distinguished)
Leather interior (BMW leather seems to be of much higher quality than my Avalon)
Power (not a race car but it definitely responds when I need it to)
Anti-theft system with internal motion detection (seems to work great)
Reliability (I have been fortunate thus far with zero major issues)
Color (Black)
Sex appeal (attracts a broad range of admirers)
Hate:
Depreciation (if you buy one off the lot kiss 20k goodbye in a couple of years)
Cost for upkeep (If you don't turn your own wrench you are doomed. I'm doomed.) :bawling:
Cup holders
Not owning two (I'd like to own a 7 series as well as my 5)
Stock sound system (my 5 series speakers SUCK)
Loves:
Missing Pixels on mid
Having to press the unlock button in the center console constantly
Vacuum leaks and misfires
Rapid inner tire wear
Awesome DSP stereo
Loud door lock servo
I love the balance of the car's characteristics: There are faster cars, better handling cars, better riding cars, more luxurious cars, more economical cars and better looking cars. But there are none that do all of the above as well as the e39.
I hate the dying pixels but that isn't bad enuf to take it in for replacement.
Love:
The car for what it is (I knew what I was getting into regarding upkeep)
That I admire it every time I look at it and it wins me back each time I've thought about replacing it
Hate:
That I didn't replace the springs when I refreshed the suspension; I cheaped out. On the To Do list for next spring.
That I didn't hold out for a manual
Love:
All the technology in a 14 yr old car (advanced for its time)
The balance of power and handling in such a heavy vehicle
The overall timeless look
That it's built like a tank in an accident
Hate:
All the preventative maintenance to prevent any unexpected drama
Stupid canholders
So much plastic in critical parts to save weight
Paranoia of monitoring engine temps (even if unnecessary)
Recent across the board increase in replacement part prices though more seem to be of lower quality than before.
Squeaking seats.
Terrible stereo.
Although I have had zero issues I am always expecting something to go wrong.
Suspension is on it's last legs, pretty sure I will need to replace most of it by next spring.
I like my e39 as well as any E60. I enjoy the driving characteristics.
The pixel dissapearance is my only down side but that is only on the radio channels.
love:
ride
leather
wood interior
sound it makes when i put my foot down (but still quiet all other times)
who needs aftermarket rims when you could just buy an E39
AE headlights
hate:
why OEM parts need to be so dam expensive (BMW tax lol)
Love: power, looks, comfort, style. Hey it's a BMW after all.
Hate: the fact that I drive a 6spd v8 with 1 wheel drive ( no LSD )
Stock stereo. Dsp is useless. Church mode? Come on. Assuming all BMW owners are stowing golf clubs and listening to opera. Mainience isn't a huge issue. As with ANY car... Take care of it.And It'll do the same for you!
Love: How relaxing and exhilarating it is to drive, sometimes even simultaneously. I might be in the minority, but I think the auto transmission is fantastic. The first one I've ever had that doesn't even occasionally leave me wanting a manual.
Haha! You are dead on the money. The single stupidest thing about the car. I don't know about the golf part, but I actually rather enjoy listening to opera sometimes, and the church setting is completely useless even for that.
I completely agree that this ancient car still looks modern, and has enough comfort features to not wear me out after a 20 hour trip. I also agree that wondering what next is killing me. P.S. it eats tires.
Love the styling and performance. Love the community. Love that parts are still readily available and reasonably priced. Appreciate that it seems to be fairly easy to work on.
Don't like that it seems to constantly be nibbling on my wallet.
