BMW recalling nearly 570,000 1 Series, 3 Series and Z4.

![]() BMW recalling nearly 570,000 1 Series, 3 Series and Z4 models over electrical issue BMW is recalling roughly 570,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada due to faulty battery cable connectors that can fail, causing the engines in these cars to stall. Of the nearly 570,000 affected vehicles, just over 504,000 are here in the US. The affected vehicles include 1 Series coupes and convertibles (both 128i and 135i) from the 2008 to 2011 model years; 3 Series sedans, coupes, convertibles and sport wagons (both 328i and 335i) from the 2007 to 2011 model years; and Z4 roadsters from the 2009 to 2011 model years. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "the connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time," which can eventually lead to a break in the electrical connection and a loss of power in the vehicle. If the car loses power, the engine can stall, which could possibly lead to a crash. The Detroit News reports that BMW knows of one minor collision in Canada as a result of this problem, but no injuries. The official recall program will kick off in March, at which point BMW will notify owners and dealerships will replace the positive battery cable connector, free of charge. Scroll down for the official NHTSA report.

When "Corrosion-gate" surfaces I wonder how many millions more cars BMW will have to recall?

I already had this repaired two years ago. It was difficult to diagnose.

I own a 2007 328i and have had over a dozen stalling issues, whereas my car completely looses power when driving (usually when starting to pick up speed while proceeding thru an intersection or slowing down. It took three times for the dealership to diagnose the source. First they thought it was the transmission, then I had the battery changed out twice (all of which I had to pay for) and then the last time, they realized a cable was not connecting properly to the battery. It's as if they knew then, that this was an issue. Each time I had to pay for my own rental car. I cannot see this as being fair, since there is now a recall on this very issue.
I am not being overly dramatic when saying, twice, we almost died. My car (with three toddlers in it) shut down completely in a very dangerous intersection and prior to that, my car ended up in the front lawn of a McDonalds. I lost all power and it was impossible to steer or stop. You have to wait until it comes to a stop, to put it into park, to restart the car. It will restart usually, but each time, stalled out just a minute later. I love my BMW, but I'm seriously concerned and right now, my car is in a parking lot waiting to be towed. I have to pay for the towing, yet again. So...it goes without saying...I am very disheartened by this and the lack of responsibility BMW North American and the local dealerships have shown to provide owners with such a serious, life threatening manufacturing defect. My car is going in today, so we'll see what happens. I have spoken with corporate twice and both local dealerships. Neither have offered anything, not even a loaner to help out with how much this has disrupted my life, job and finances. Again, I love everything else about my car, but this is unacceptable. |

Just paid $280.00 for an oil change and air filter at the Dealer and no mention of the recall. will ask about it next trip in to address a tap in the engine. Service is great while under warranty after that you will need deep pockets. The tap will cost $50.00 deductible with the extended warranty.

That would buy me 4 oil changes at my local indie shop, all filters, Liqui-Moly, and labor included.

I've never had any of my cars recalled. Do the company simply give a phone call, or a letter maybe, to inform you? Thanks! |
