When my kid 20y.o. 50 kg sits on the front passenger seat, Passenger side airbag off warning light goes on. When I sit there, no light. Is there a problem that has to be taken care of?
Sounds like a yes. A small adult can be 50 kg too. It's supposed to give problems with small items like a briefcase sitting there. Maybe try a different seating posture, not lean against the side/door etc. Or it's a seat mat/sensor problem or a loose electrical connector under the seat. There's a seat mat recall on many bimmers a few years ago/recently. (Or the seatbelt buckle may be the problem but maybe not in this case.) Since this is a safety issue be sure to quickly have a dealer check it. (Seat belts and air-bags have a 10 year warranty in the US. Not sure about Canada - maybe call/ask the dealer.)
It does sound like there could be an issue with the sensor, as many female adults weigh about the same as your kid and it wouldn't make sense if our X5s only accepted adults over 50kg. Just out of curiosity, your 20 year old kid is a girl, right..?
I am wondering of something is wrong with the weight sensors in the passenger seat. My wife is under 50 kg and no issues with her sitting in the passenger side.
As I recall, they should 'trip' when the load is under 30kg- so if they sense weight, but it is under 30, they disable the airbag.
Have the daughter step on a scale, then sit in the car. Hand her 2kg at a time until it 'works'...then you can report to the SA "the passenger occupant weight sensor appears to be incorrect, it is being triggered at ___ kg" More precise, lets subject to dismissal with 'Oh that how it workds'
asked the dealership, they say I do not have 10 years airbag warranty, but covered with my extended warranty - means $50 deductible. So I will let her sit in the front only if she holds 12kg brick on her laps
