Hi Everyone,
I need some advice. I had a 2013 X3 with 16,500 miles in PERFECT condition. Until, I was rear-end by a vehicle and had about $8,000 in repairs made. The damage included the rear floor pan so it was pretty extensive.
I told the insurance company covering the claim (Avis - it was a rental car and they handle their own claims) that I wanted to file for diminished value. The outcome was that their independent appraiser said they recommended an additional claim of $450. Since everything was replaced (not repaired) with OEM parts they felt the car should hold it's value. Avis was kind enough to realize this was low and is offering $1050. My thought is that anyone looking at my car isn't going to care if it has OEM parts and will say - it's been in an accident. I don't want it or it should be much less than the same car that has not been rear-ended.
From what I've researched the value is going to be more like $6K +. But, I don't want to go to BMW and ask them and put a red flag on my vehicle! I would like to drive it a few more years.
Has anyone gone through this process? I could: 1. get a lawyer; or 2. hire my own appraisal company. But if I go with 2, I still might need the lawyer. OR, do I take the $1050 and just be glad I wasn't hurt and my car looks new again?
Thoughts?? Thanks!!
