Look at Michael's times as well. He got a slow third sector time also. Gene, Schumacher and Montoya have the fastest speed trap times. That's a downforce issue that's hurting them in the third sector. They all might have chosen a little more wing and given up a little speed for cornering in the third sector. I don't know if top speed helps with any of the passing opportunities at Magny Cours. Passing is a problem there for sure.

JPM's reaction to qualifying

"It's a shame that I couldn't again set the fastest time in qualifying, after such a good pre-qualifying lap. We solved the problems I had in this morning's free practice, changing the car quite a bit, and we went out for qualifying with the right set-up."

"In qualifying I was quickest in the first two sectors, but then I made a mistake because I was pushing too hard and lost the rear of my car in the second high-speed chicane and I could only set the sixth time. The positive thing is that we showed today that the pace is there and this means we should have a strong race car. Anyway, we'll see tomorrow how we are going to perform compared with everybody else."

Holy crap (haven't I heard that before). The man is unbelievable. Awesome, just awesome!

Meanwhile, I would've loved to have a tap in the radio conversations that must've taken place between JPM and his team. There would've been enough "colorful language" to keep me cursing for a month.

Did we just see the beginning of the 4 stop strategy era? That was just brilliant race strategy and brilliant driving.

With the apparent resurgance of of McLaren, Williams is going to be stuck as the fifth best team it looks like.

I got the feeling that that was a one-time thing. I also think that in F1's current state, the only driver who can actually make a four-stopper work successfully is MS. Doesn't mean that others shouldn't try, though. Very interesting.

The battle for third was also really exciting and bizarre. What did Trulli do to lose it at the very last turn?

:stupid: (only driver/car combo)..BTW did anyone else think Maxs "explanation" of how the safety teams performance at Indy was just fine rather lame."The re-animator was on the scene within the specified 2 mins.""So if he was dead they could have brought him back just fine"(sic) Gee-so long as the got there within an arbitrary time frame you've set there is no need to try to get there any quicker!

Totally. He was being super defensive in the interview, and I really think his responses -- while decent for the company line -- were unsatisfactory. Still, if the stated goal is to get help to the scene within two minutes, I suppose you can't be overly critical of Indy for executing their plan successfully.

That leaves the decision to keep the race going under caution while they cleaned up the mess. All of the footage they've played makes it pretty clear to me that they should've stopped the race, and I think the FIA needs to seriously evaluate their policy in these matters.

Ron Dennis went out of his way yesterday to be interviewed and slam Mosely + his comments. I read the text of the interview in Finnish, but I have not found it in English anywhere.

Basically, he gave his point of view that Mosely was talking out of his ass ...

No, I don't believe that this is the beginning of a four stop strategy. Ferrari's top speed was higher than Renault's and they were faster in T1, where Renault shone in T2. In the last section they were almost identical fast.

Trulli p0wn3d by Rubens very badly. The race is never finished, before you pass the line. I'm sure this will be a lesson for Trulli the next time. ;)

Other than the Trulli-Rubens-Button trio, the race was pretty boring.

As for Mosley, I never liked him. He has an arrogant attitude. His 'efforts' to make the F1 more attractive and an 'affordable' event is very funny.

Well, there you are ...

Yes, the #1 car was awesome - and I think that pit stop #4 was just for show. Amazing 7th win on the same track. Quite a record for someone interested in making records.

The #2 car's pass at the end was fantastic - it made the race for me. Hats off for that.

The race was boring. The Trulli-Barrichello-Button trio was also boring. Nothing really happened until the last lap.

And agreed about the FIA boss-king. I hope that Max has a pleasant retirement ... he is old enough to deserve it. Thank you for going away, quickly.

:hi:

BTW, I think Mclaren Mercedes Team deserves a mention. :) They both finished the race. Their pace was very good too
First race for the new car, so not bad. Kimi's qualifying screw-ups cost him a few places in the race, but JPM helped by spinning out twice. I still wonder why they brought the car out for this race. Regardless, both finished ...

Another question this race raises is what is Marc Gene's status after finishing 10th. :dunno:

Wait a minute, fellas...Time out for a second here.

No discussions about Spoonface peeling out first before Goatee-face during the warm-up lap? If there is a 15sec disqualification for Forkface running from the grid back to the garage, there has got to be a regulation for what happened during the beginning of the warm-up lap.

Care to comment?

Yes, next time Michael won't be allowed to stop more than three times :lmao:
