Is there an issue with driver (left) side mirrors on these cars. I test drove an X1 and notified the dealer that the mirror could not be adjusted enough to the right (Could not see the car door). In fact it warped the mirror glass as I moved it to the right stop.
I ordered the car anyway and when mine came in, I have the same problem.
Going in for repair but two cars with the same problem seems strange. Anyone else with this problem?
I did an advanced car handling course that went through the adjustment as well and seems it's now different from what I was taught before - it's no longer that you want to see the tiniest edge of the car on the mirror, but you want the side mirror to pick up where the center mirror drops off. This reduces the blind spot but makes the parallel lanes look like they're coming at you at an angle. Takes a bit of getting used to but you end up seeing more
I'm in a 2015 x1 xdrive loaner right now and the drivers rearview mirror stood out about 30 seconds after I sat in the car! It's not a matter of proper adjustment, it's that the mirror doesn't adjust in far enough compared to other cars like my 2013 X5 or any of the other cars in my driveway that have power mirrors... I'm 5'11" and could not see more than a sliver of the car with my head against the window in my normal comfortable position; I really don't like my legs stretched out fully when my feet are on the pedals.
I was able to adjust the seat back and extend the steering wheel out and have a little less bend in my knees than I prefer in order to use the mirror properly. Anyone shorter than myself (enough to want the seat closer to the dash) will find the mirror on his car un-usable based on what I have experienced.
For anyone else reading this and having the same issue raising or lowering the seat cushion might also have a small effect on this too.
I'm 5'11" and my wife is 5' even and neither of us have an issue with it.
We have a 2013 - wonder if BMW changed the mirror at some point and the new one isn't as good? Could be defective pieces too?
I have my mirrors adjusted such that the rear view is centered on the road and the driver's side is adjusted as much to the left as possible so that as soon as a vehicle leaves the rear view mirror, it shows up in the driver's side. There is a tiny bit of a blind spot for me where when a vehicle to my left exits my driver's side mirror, I can't see it for a fraction of a second until it enters my peripheral vision. But at that point I am either aware of it, can hear it, or check for it. With this setup I have pretty much 100% coverage.
If you adjust your drivers side mirror to see your car door or in some way where you can see a car directly behind you, in the word of Steve Jobs, you're holding it wrong.
