How can anyone discuss how nice the new F30 exterior is without addressing that abysmal front hood line?
Is BMW kidding or what.
Have they "lost it"?
In fact, the WHOLE hood looks like it is just a SQUARE piece of metal just dropped on the front end to cover the engine.
UGLY...and don't give me this "jive" about safety standards or some dribble as such...other companies have not resorted to this sick looking line right across the front end:thumbdwn:
Compare it to the front hood of an E46...or even the E9x (except that 1st year with the stupid kidney grille "eyebrow, that separated when hood opened)
IT RUINS THE WHOLE DESIGN...complete fail.
Is no one else seeing this?:dunno:
I didn't buy my E90 because I thought it was the best looking car on the road - the road feel and build quality were what sold me. The F30 (or F32) will be the same. If I buy one it will be because the good overwhelms the bad (and frankly the F30 front-end is pretty definitely a point of contention for me - it's just too angular and awkward).
BTW, the ignore feature works pretty well on this site. I'm not a troll so rather than accuse me of such, just put me on your ignore list if you don't like my opinions.
+1
AMAZiNG....if you do NOT agree with the lemmings...you are castigated on this site:thumbdwn:
I SAID...other sites / forums...NOT just this one with my "poll"
Put me on your "ignore" , instead of accusing of "trolling" ad nausea!
I will be honest though. If by some miracle the F30 becomes more reliable that the E92s and closer to e36/e46 territory in terms of non-drivable failures, I'll likely pick one up as my next vehicle.
If anything, the hood reminds me of Aston Martin db9 and Ferrari 458 Italia which I really like. I don't see that as a bad thing. If anything bothers me at all, it's prolly the headlight connected to kidney grills which is not typical BMW. But meh, I'm sure the m3 sport would be awesome
It seems to me that when it comes to a new model, "success" is measured in popularity. If the F30 outsells the E, then it has to be deemed "successful". Performance, reliability and design all enter into the mix of how popular the car is, but the bottom line is, if the thing sells well, then BMW has hit the mark. If I had to bet, I'd say the F will out sell all previous versions. Anyone want to bet it won't?
right on! yeah, I predict this model will outsell all previous generations. Now being both a super efficient car and yet increased performance from previous generation, it will definitely attract both enthusiasts and "green" drivers
I believe when the e90 came out, it was castigated for it's atrocious design, horrible wishy-washy taillights, chrome moustache, and incredibly bland interior (especially compared to the e46).
I'm not that nuts about the front fascia either. To me, the gaping hole on the lower half is out of balance and overpowers everything else.
Pictures can be deceiving, so don't put me down as a hater just yet.
When I saw the design at first it didn't sit so well with me. But over some time it has settled in. I think this is to be expected with avant-garde stuff. The look is still BMW but it stands separate from the rest of the line. For now that is.
It's far from an Aztec, which only seemed to get uglier over time. I saw an Infiniti I45 (or something) in my rear view mirror yesterday and couldn't believe people at one time thought that was good looking. That's unlikely to happen with this car.
ALL the pro reviewers who have seen the car in the metal and driven it rave about most of it. The electric steering gets panned a bit, the rear lights design (lack of continuity in horizontal lines) gets hated by some. But for the most part, people think it looks better in person, drives superbly (at least as good as E90 and most say better). It achieves the present goals of fuel efficiency and will achieve sales targets barring a global economic meltdown.
I am not in a position to get one for at least 3-4 years (recent purchases of two Bimmers) but am excited about it and can't wait to get to drive it.
If you guys cannot read an opinion as it is, an opinion, instead have the need to insult, then maybe his opinion had struck a nerve, and rightfully so?
It is not a minority view that the front fascia, especially the lower fascia has many left scratching their heads.
I disagree with him on the hoodline though. Even if it is not ideal, no one can really take much notice of it.
But the lower fascia is right in your face, having no connection with the upper part, almost an afterthought.

THANK YOU:thumbup:
Seems a lot of guys on these "forums", including moderators, are just OK with thier "OWN" opinions / threads / posts...no matter how "opinunated" or subjective or controversial:dunno:
But have ZERO tolerance for someones leses "OPINIONS"...and that is what mine was...an opinion on the new look of the hood & front end, which is shared by MANY, and NOT just on "Biimmerfest".
BTW "bimmer / beemer...so what, who cares, I have heard both from fans, and we know what they are talking about ...a BMW:roundel::beerchug:

1. Maybe if you didn't state your opinions in such a D-Bag fashion people would be more receptive.
2. Hard to take seriously the opinion of someone who would express either a) that the hood line is the most distinguishing design feature of any BMW or b) Fox "news" is the only media outlet that tells the truth without even the slightest hint of sarcasm.
Something tells me that #1 and #2 have a lot to do with one another.

We've asked a couple of times to stop with the personal comments. This thread isn't doing anything to "bring the community together" and I'm guessing it's going to create more problems if it stays open.
It's official - his M3 will depreciate in accelerated mode soon. Don't understand why OP has to say his mein auto M3 is a 3 series; as if it can be any other series
None of what you said above has anything to do with the opinions of the new front fascia.
I consider the front design oddly put together with lines dividing the front, not unifying it. It is as if they designed three layers in separate rooms then piled them on.
You don't have to agree with me, you can very well tell me why the new design is a giant step above the old. I will evaluate your opinion on its own merit, without any of the irrelevant background nonsense.
Let's not forget BMW did address some of the complaints of the E90 styling in the mid model changes.
Not necessarily true. Sometimes the biggest critics are the true lovers.
Do I really care how ugly or pretty a Camry looks?
To be fair, many of the complaints are the result of BMW doing exceptionally good prior jobs in its designs, the M exterior styling to be specific. Trying to break out of those very sucessful designs is very risky. Maybe the new smiley (or angry) face will set a new trend for years to come and for all to copy again.
I will add that as good as the 1ers are as fine driving machine, and the 1M is the ultimate testimony to that achievement, they are ugly, and I have seen them both in pictures and in person to say this.
Of course just my opinion. I would love to have a 1M if stars are all aligned.
That leads to my other conclusion, as bad as I think the F30's front fascia, I can easily overlook the styling, if it provides much better driving dynamics.
Bumpers can be changed, botox is popular for good reasons. What is difficult to replace is the soul.
The e90 came out with a chrome moustache,a completely screwed up ass-end, and about the most boring interior ever created (nicely non-functional for everyday use as well). Supposedly, the interior was "clean" - pfft.
So far, the f30 is already ahead of that styling & ergonomics mess in my book.
This is thread really should all be about people who recently bought a non-3 series bimmer or just can't afford a bimmer. Why?
Well people who bought a 3-er within the past 2 years or so will obviously hate this car with a passion! Check the posters above and their cars and all other forums. Notice not too many E46 owners hate this car.
Then there are those people who are in the market for a bimmer or already ordered an F30. They will obviously love this car with a passion. Again check posts above
Bottom line is, the exterior of the car will be subjective depending on the biases mentioned above. Only thing we can't argue about is this F30's performance. It's obviously a significant improvement over the E9x. Maybe just not on the sound... but seriously, what really matters is performance and efficiency. And this new F30 is way above the E9X engine/performance wise.
You must mean ONLY the entry-level 328...the 335i remains the same "engine" HP & torque.
You do not read or listen...I am collecting, has NOTHING to do with buying a E9x in the last 2 yrs.? I want to buy the next "generation"...butt fugly so far.
found this video... seems an unbiased review.. maybe the hood actually looks phenomenal in person (as per this reviewer)... BUT OH MAN!! Watch that speedometer and tachometer when he drove... that 8 speed is insane..
Also, seems like it being a 4 cylinder is pretty deceiving from the way it drives. Win win BMW! Good job!
Btw, downside for me is... i want a 6MT lol I hope it feels the same as the 8 speed most likely not but whatever
Having statistics is no use if you don't have the skill to interpret it.
I have just offered you another stat to show why your interpretations of your stats were wrong.
Playing a psychic would be fine if you were at least correct a few times, but as I said your guesses were wrong about who we are, whether we are poor or rich, how old we are.
Why should we continue to rely on your additional guesses when the track record has been so bad?
Personally, I don't object to the hood line much, rather the lower front fascia. While I agree we should wait to see them in person, I have seen the new 5s many times, and the new 328i coupes, don't like them.
The 2012 328 coupes have the similar lower fascia.
