The full press release from BMW is below with more details...

Woodcliff Lake, NJ ***8211; May 15, 2012 12:00PM EDT***8230;. In the long standing tradition of high performance BMW ***8220;is***8221; models, BMW today announced an enhanced performance version of the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible called the BMW 135is. The 2013 135is Coupe and Convertible focus the qualities that made the 135i such a success amongst driving enthusiasts ***8211; with more performance, enhanced sound and dynamic design details. Both the new 135is Coupe and Convertible are scheduled to arrive in BMW Center showrooms this fall with retail pricing set at $44,145 and $48,845 respectively (including $895 destination and handling).

Both models are equipped with BMW***8217;s award winning TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine (N55) featuring Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology, direct injection and a single twin-scroll turbocharger. For the 135is, the engine has been tuned to increase peak horsepower to 320 hp (+20 hp increase) and 317 lb-ft of torque (+17 lb.ft) while maintaining the same emissions level and MPG ratings of the 135i. A Performance exhaust system complements the increased engine performance and provides a sporty exhaust tone. The engine cooling system has been upgraded to match the additional performance output by adding a larger, and more powerful radiator fan and an auxiliary radiator.

Both BMW 135is models will be offered with either a standard 6-Speed manual transmission or an optional 7-Speed Double Clutch Transmission.

The 135is is equipped with sport suspension incorporating an aluminum double-pivot front suspension and a five-link fully independent rear suspension in lightweight steel.

BMW***8217;s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) also includes a Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) function that provides electronic intervention to prevent loss of vehicle control, but at a higher threshold before activation. This allows the driver to experience more spirited driving on dry roads and offers more flexibility when driving in more challenging conditions such as in snow. If the driver desires, both DSC and DTC can be disabled entirely. In addition to its duties as a safety system, the DSC system on the 135is is programmed specifically to enhance performance-oriented driving.

The differential in the 135is comes from a new generation of final drives optimized for running smoothness and fuel efficiency. Featuring double-helical ball bearings, the differential runs at an even lower operating temperature reached more quickly than before thanks to the reduction of fluid required in the differential. Electronic rear brake management is used to simulate a differential lock for stronger acceleration in turns and low-traction conditions.

The exterior of the new 135is Coupe / Convertible will be clearly identified by exclusive 18***8221; wheels, unique high-gloss black kidney grill, black mirror caps and special exterior badges in additional to the standard M Sport Package components. Interior highlights include stainless steel pedals, special interior badges and optional black leather seats with blue stitching for the standard sport seats.

The BMW135is Coupe and Convertible are available to order now and are scheduled to arrive in BMW Center showrooms this fall.

I love this car! The 1 Series, and the 135 in particular, is BMW at its best if you ask me.

135is on order - I'm in the club

Just sharing my anticipation having just ordered my new 135is, Alpine white coupe with beige interior. Should be here in 6 - 8 weeks... can't wait. I was considering a 2012 135i with M sport package but the 2013 135is isn't actually much more expensive and the dealer I bought from here in CT gave me a very good deal (traded in my Mini Cooper S JCW). Many years ago I owned a 1970 2002, white with beige interior. I'm buying into BMW's pitch that the 135 is a reincarnation of the 2002 and plan to enjoy my trip down memory lane. My one concern right now is finding wheels and snow tires for the winter (Connecticut). I know there are wheel / snow tire combinations available for the 135i and hope they fit the 135is.

Congrats! The 135i may be the reincarnation of the 2002 size wise and to some degree tossable wise, but it won't, of course, really be a reincarnation of the 2002. It will be much less raw.

Having owned 3 2002s back in the day, and now own a 135i; I can assure you that the 135i is much more car than the old 2002 ever was. But, the 1er is closest thing to the original BMWs of all the vehicles BMW makes today.

The 135i MSport is BMWs best-kept secret..

2 guys here received their 135is'...http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733405

Fair warning, apparently there has been some inconsistent "standard" options--One guy gets the medal pedals, other guy dosesn't. One guy gets the blk side mirrors, other guy didn't (this might be related to CB :dunno:). Neither received the full-black kidney grilles (like the 335is) or blacklines.

My SOP is in a couple of weeks, so I'm hoping things gets worked out by then

Careful not to confuse those Carbon Black 1ers. "Ray" who started the Thread received the US-Spec 135is (as did the LBM guy ("Ace") toward the end of the Thread). The other CB pics are from an Aussie. Their "Special Edition" models seemed similar to our "is" versions.

BTW, do you recall the date your "is" started production? Curious how long it took from start of production to get loaded on a boat.

Not sure at all what the confusion over the small, rear deck spoiler is....???

My 2012 135i MSport (NOT "is") has one.

Unless you are talking of a much larger spoiler, but I sure don't see that in any of the pictures referred to in this thread....confused by your confusion......:dunno:

LOL...us 135is guys are just confused by all the confusion over the confusing "standard" options on our 135is' :yikes:

You are right, 135i MSports do get the same spoiler

135is new owner pics

Someone asked for more pics of the new 135is. Just picked up mine yesterday. Not sure I know how to insert images in this posting but I'll try below. As for driving it... I've read two different slights against the 135is - one complains that it's essentially a 135i with the M sport package (except for the additional 20 HP and the intangible brand equity from the "is", perhaps that's true, but in June I priced out a 2012 135i with the M sport package and it wasn't much less than my 135is, so I'm very happy I ordered the "is"); the other is that for about the same list price a 1M could be had... coulda, shoulda, woulda, but they were rarely if ever available at list price anyway. The old adage that second place is the first of the losers doesn't apply here. IMHO the "is" is a winner! I LOVE MINE. Pics...

Jones, thanks for posting pics and welcome to BF!!! And I agree completely with your thoughts...

I'm waiting for my AW 135is and these pics help with the wait. Of course, I wish we were getting the all black grille like the 335is, and the tinted tailights would have looked great, but the 1er looks great nonetheless! How does it sound?

Also, is the color of your rear diffuser black or still that grey color?
Thanks!

BTW, check to make sure your shipping blocks were removed. The wheel gap looks noticeable

rear diffuser grey... the growl is awesome... shipping blocks?

The rear diffuser is grey, not black. The engine growl is awesome. True story - this morning on the way to work I was stopped at a red light; Mustang GT pulled up beside me a blipped his throttle, so I blipped back and he did a double take. Shipping blocks - wheel gap??? Not sure what that means or how to check the shipping blocks. Please explain.

The black mirrors might look good on some body colors, but not so on white. I might have them painted white. Anyone know where I can order black kidney grills without paying dealer prices? BTW, I thought the wheels were silver. Not sure if it's clear from my earlier picture, but they're gun metal grey. Also, I was worried about ordering beige leather because of the black dash but the way they've integrated black with biege on the door panels (and seat backs are black too, doesn't show in my earlier pics) the interior beige / black looks great.

I guess I'll need to paint my diffuser black. Based on your pic, I was hoping I wouldn't have to.

You can check for shipping blocks by looking inside your wheel wells at your springs. You would see a large block to prevent your springs from moving during shipping. They probably were removed and gravity will take over to lower your gap.

I actually prefer the black side mirrors on AW. It looks like Carbon Black may get body colored wing mirrors. Check out TischerBMW for aggresively priced OEM parts. I plan to get my performance grilles from them (now also a rear diffuser to paint and play around with).

I thought your interior was Oyster b/c of it being 2-toned. I didn't think beige came in two-tone (at least it doesn't in other series).

Looks great. Keep sharing pics. Helps with my wait!

Drove one yesterday. Fun ride, and a quick car. Exhaust sticking out bothers me but other than that I love it. Trying to find the right price.

Not sure what you mean by exhaust sticking out. It seems pretty normal to me. And trust me, the sound is AWESOME! I only have 900 miles on mine but so far it's been a pretty sweet 900 miles. Just so much fun to drive. Go ahead, treat yourself to some fun.
The BMW PE definitely protrudes out more than the garden variety 135 due to the fact it was designed to be pared with the BMW Performance Diffuser.

Oner owners have been wringing their hands over this ever since the PE was released.

Personally, I don't see the big deal over this.

I prefer to be incensed and decry the loss of the stock black chrome tips look than the length. :)

One of the other cons with the PE was a discernible drone at certains rpm bands. Have you detected any such behavior on your is?

And, oh by way congrats! It's still a handsome looking vehicle despite my nitpicks.
