Swapping NBT system to the pro?

Is it overly difficult to upgrade the NBT to the NBT pro myself (have the base one with the small screen)? I see there are a few NBT pro systems from the same generation/model as I have (i3) on ebay - Any insight on what would need to be taken apart to do the upgrade myself? Beyond the probably laborious task of physically switching out the components - Is it difficult to get a system re-coded to work with a different car?

Examples of units available:

Maybe I can just upgrade the screen?

Reading this thread - it looks like if I just want to upgrade the screen to 8.8 or maybe even 10.25 - all I would need to do is swap the screen and update the coding?

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1213730

Without out updating the head unit/receiver - would I be able to do the split screen and other aesthetics options of the NBT Pro (minus the 4g over the air maps updates, etc?)

Your basic unit is HU ENTRY NAV (Business Nav) and you want to replace it with either NBT or NBT Evo (Professional Nav). There is no "NBT Pro".

This is important as the display hardware is different between NBT and NBT Evo.

You could replace your current 6.5" display with the 10.25" without replacing the main unit. Your current HU ENTRY NAV version will determine which display will work with it.

Thank you Technic!

Just a few more days until the ODBII to Ethernet comes in the mail and then I should know what version of the HU ENTRY NAV I have. By chance do you know which versions of the HU ENTRY NAV are compatible with the 10.25" screen...or in this case part #9306743 / #65509306743?

Screens that are available on ebay at the moment...
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...fLoc=2&_sop=15

It seems its "only a few hundred more" to a complete NBT EVO in comparison to just getting the screen from a salvage yard in Europe - would it be pretty much a straight swap if I were to get a complete system like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bmw-I01-i3-N...IAAOSw2gxYx~MM

Thinking more about it, if I were to go the route of entire unit from Europe- Over the air maps update/traffic info wouldn't work because of different gsm/gsm setup? Possibly all online/sos services wouldn't work and would need to update the maps? Doesn't sound like it would be worth the hassle?

I suggest checking the P/N of the 10.25" screen for your production date and get one like it. You can check it here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/

That should work with your HU ENTRYNAV.

I did that 10.25" display swap in both my old F30 and my sister current F30 with NBT, however now that I have an F80 with an NBT2 Evo the 10.25" that I installed in my old NBT does not work with the Evo. Different voltages and video protocol (APIX).

Thanks again Technic!

I checked RealOem.com and came up with this: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=65_2543

For the support column, it only states if it is compabible with the S609 setup, no mention of the 606

It states that the 6.5" model wont work with the S609a

It doesn't state explicitly that the 10.25" works with the S606 - would be taking a risk that it wouldn't work? - though I suppose I could put it back on ebay with little loss.

It should work with your HU right away but it will need coding to maximize its use.
