Finally got my final driver's side air bag relaced under recall.

After the above mentioned dealer experience (an ongoing bad experience since 2005), I planned out a visit to a smaller BMW dealer 40 minute interstate drive away one Saturday morning. Arrived when the service dept. doors opened, paperwork in...to paperwork out, 45 mins. If you schedule a 1st thing in the morning appointment and get in line 1st that day, you should be in and out as the actual replacement or the drivers side bag is a 5 min job. Pops out , pops back in.

Getting ready to take the convertible out of storage. Called the Reno dealer to schedule the airbag replacement, they said they have to be ordered and it could take two months for the part to come in. Anyone else run into this or were the parts readily available?

I'm in Boston and when I called the parts were readily available, I have been going to the same dealer for almost 20 years and the same SA, but I rarely go anymore except to buy parts and things like this.

I think they're BS'ing me. They're making a big deal out of asking for the VIN and making sure the part is allocated for my car. Typical for this dealer, making a big deal out of nothing and acting like they're imposed on to even service a car. They ordered it, we will see.

At first, my local dealership said it would probably be a few weeks for the parts to arrive. They called me two days later and said, "When would you like to bring it in?"

It took a long time to get the parts, but the nearby dealer was pretty easy to work with, and called me when they came in. I now have both the driver's side and the passenger side airbags done.

I had the passenger air bag recall performed this past week at the Indianapolis BMW dealer.
Took about 75 minutes and they were pleasant enough. I called the week before and they set an appointment.
Piece of cake.

Both airbags have been replaced, but it required two visits to the dealer months apart. They did the passenger side first, but quite awhile until the drivers side became available. The dealer provide me a loaner for the day on both occasions, so I have no idea how long the change over took them. I enjoyed the opportunity to drive two different model new cars for those recall days. No complaints.

I had my airbag replaced (can't remember which side). Funny thing is, right after I got the car back, the battery went and had to be replaced. Just a coincidence. Then short time later the fake wood trim along the dash fell off. I was going to go back to the dealer to quiz them about the wood trim since I suspected they broke it while replacing the bag and just glued it back on temporary for the unsuspecting customer. However, remember how inferior the plastic and other stuffs BMW used in their cars (my front kidney grills' locking tabs broke and the grills fell off, my interior cloth came apart from the body etc. too many gripes), I decided not to bother. Sigh, go BMW.

I dropped off my wife's 330 for airbag recall as well as 4 wheel alignment due to suspension upgrades. They gave new 330i as a loaner, and ohh god does it feel right.
It is a 4 banger with turbo (or two, idk) but it feels pretty good on power. My guess is around 250hp. Transmission up shifts are some much better compared to 5hp19.
Downshifts are kind of sluggish with that usual auto transmission bugger before it downshifts. Other than that, the car feel pretty solid and so much quieter and not rattles.

Anyway, just wanted to share

Scan the car for codes and you will get a better idea as to why air bag light is on. Could very well be because of belt pre-tensioner.
