Door ajar - damsel in distress

Looking for some help as I've run out of ideas.
Door ajar warning like came on 10 days ago on front passenger door (E91 touring 2007). I've cleaned it with wd40 and slammed it lots. I've cleaned it with silicone spray.
The mechanic glanced and said to fit a new lock mechanism. I took the old one out (big feat for single woman so impressed I've got this far) it looked find but ordered a used but tested piece. Fitted that but the warning light is still on and so binging alarm going off (mainly when car sets off or turns so positional), interior light on, alarm goes off if not disabled.
I thought I'd try the back passenger one so took that lock out and tried it in the front and the ajar alarm still went off.
Could it be the cable that goes from lock to, I guess, computer?
Can I just cut a wire and disable the sensor as I'm happy it's locking safely?
Where exactly is the door closed sensor in the lock?
Many thanks for any help you can offer
