BMW Ultimate Care

Hi,

I live in CA and, I just purchased 2017 pre-owned X5 from dealer but it is not certified.
Tried to reduce down the cost but dealer proposed employee price maintenance purchase option.
I realized from 2017, I have to pay extra to get wear item services which was free before till 4k/50,000 miles.

During the financing, the financing guy showed different maintenance packages and asked whether I want to add.
Price was high so I asked price showen is employee price and he said "Yes". He also said "replacing break pads only will cost more than 3k later" so I end-up adding Ultimate care till (5yr/70K Miles) at $4.1K.
But I really doubt if this is employee price. I even think it is expensive compared to other deals.

Can you share your opinion?
I'd like to return to dealer if it is bad deal

Thanks

The price on the brochure is the following: (not employee pricing:
X5- sport activity vehicle:
1. Ultimate Care $600 (3yr/36,000 miles)
2. Ultimate Care 1+ $1,249 (4yr/50,000 miles)
3. Ultimate Care 2+ $2,199 (5yr/75,000 miles)
4. Ultimate Care 3+ $3,249 (6yr/100,000 miles)
5. Ultimate Care 4+ $4,199 (7yr/125,000 miles)

Sound like you got charged more for Ultimate care 2+ which cover maintenance for 5yr/75K.
The diesel is $200-450 more expensive.

Regardz,

J Irwan

@OP,

Just as a side note, if you cancel the warranty add on, it will Not (repeat will NOT) change your payment AT ALL. I am not saying whether it is a good deal or not (Im not a fan of buying warranties at the outset actually, and BMW brakes last a long time unless you ride them etc). I am just telling you about the "nuts and bolts" of the maintenance / warranty extensions.

If you try to return it, they "may" try to tell you that you cant. thats not true, you CAN return it / cancel it. Once you get past that, they will tell you that your payment will NOT change, even though you are returning the warranty / maintenance. That IS true, because the money for the warranty / maintenance just "comes off the back end" so to speak, so it reduces the amount you borrowed but does NOT (again, does NOT) reduce / change your payment. People get very confused on this because its somewhat confusing, but if they take the 4.1k off, it comes off the TOTAL borrowed, which means that you will pay off the car earlier. It does not mean your payment changes at all.

Whether you want to return it is up to you (I would not have bought it at purchase). Some of the other stuff you are saying doesnt make sense, like you bought a "pre owned" 17 but its not certified. A pre owned 17 would have the balance of the original maintenance and warranty on it, which is 3 years 36k miles for wear and tear items (not including brakes), and 4 years 50k for WARRANTY items (things that are not wear and tear).

It sounds to me like you added a 5 year warranty or something onto it, but you need to make sure you know what you bought. You also need to make sure you bought the BMW backed warranty if you expected that. If it were me, I would absolutely return it... just understand like I said like 3-4 times your payment wont change.

I would just buy Ultimate Care for $600, whether it is a lease or a purchase - new or pre-owned.

Yes I l paid exact $4199 but looks the warranty was half of that.
Anyway, I ended up returning the car for the 2 reasons

1. On the next morning (after overnight park), I power on the car (without starting engine) and from the moment, I heard something is running(Compressor or something) but it generated very weird ticking noise. I turned off the fan in side cabin and it was still making. Recorded it showed to dealer they couldn't figure out. (it didn't happen after that)
2. Inside the console box there is very weird paper with print "Hail damage". They said it is not for that car but they couldn't provide reasonable explanation as to why it was in there. Dealer manager said it's for her wife's car but I don't believe

Now I am relieved to know that I made right choice and I didn't buy a car from dishonest dealer. But I need to spend time to search new one again.

Thanks.

Has any of you received any discount on any of these plans? I am considering Ultimate Care 4+, but I have a feeling it is not worth the price they ask for it?

They are negotiable. How much they will discount them is a mystery, but I there is definitely some wiggle room in the price ( not 50% for the dealer backed one).

Question;
Can you add any of these after purchase or
Only at the time buying the vehicle?
