Maybe their coffee is really good. I don't drink coffee so I wouldn't know.

Haven't had one in 30+ years, so not sure if they're good or not lately. The local "Mom & Pop" (not a chain) donut shop about a mile from our house is awesome.

Most places I've lived have had Mom and Pop owned (Mostly Asian) donut shop that were decent to great. I've been in The Big Apple for the past 4+ years.
Nothing but DD's here. It's not that they are nasty, it's just that they all taste exactly the same and they are barely so-so.

I went into one in Mid-town and asked if they had "Old Fashioned" donuts. They pointed to the cake donuts. I "said" no, those are cake donuts. I showed them a pic from Google so they could see what an "Old Fashioned" looked like. They had never seen one before.

we have a mom + pop and the local indendent grocery store does some decent donuts - but my favorite are 'old fashioned' - without the glaze - just a sprinkling of granulated sugar, and dunk them in coffee - but those aren't so popular and are getting hard to find now..

My least favorite way to get a donut is with powdered sugar - really? Who like that evil sh1t?!?

you limit complaints to those areas? what about the decor, the service (or lack thereof), the homeless clientele who hang around, the staff, the cleanliness... the list really could get quite large...

Plus 1,000. I remember their ads in the 80's I think it was. They still made them daily in each store. They weren't that good even back then but, at least they didn't suck as bad as they do now.

Most any donut is something I know I should never consume. Horrible stuff - white flour, low grade grease, sugar. My mom's new husband is into morning donut shop get togethers with his buddies and I eat some at those when I visit. Oh well, they're not full on poison.

Yeah, I know. It's probably a blessing for me that DD sucks so bad. Otherwise, I would be eating them a couple of times a week. I was near Union Square this morning for an MRI and an x-ray. I found a little "Mom & Pop" place. That was the first time I spent $9.00 on donuts and it wasn't even for a half dozen. I would have expected that if they had been "cronuts" but, they weren't.

Krispy Kreame is okay when they are freshly made. When they get some time on them, they sort of lose their appeal for me. We've got one KK and a local chain called "Donut Bank" and Dunkin Donuts is talking about coming back into the area. Donut Bank out competed them years ago.

all donuts fresh out of the fryer are better than those sat around for a while, but I have to say, a KK still hot is amazing - I didn't get the fuss about them until I had one still hot from the production line... they're OK room temp, but super-fresh off the line and they're dangerous, I'd eat half a dozen and hate myself for doing so...

In Ny dd iced coffee tastes like cat piss. I dont know if they dont clean anything, use the same coffe rinds? or something, I also think alot of them dont use real milk anymore. Ive stopped getting DD for the most part and started getting my coffee from smaller places and it tastes like real coffee again.

So, how are they the largest donut chain in the country? Are there really that many people out there with such poor taste when it comes to donuts?

look around at what is successful in much of America - mediocrity abounds... and is apparently, a good recipe for a successful business!

most popular restaurants in the USA are:

This is what passes the mouths and satisfies the tastebuds of your 'average American'.

You are so unAmerican! Go ahead separate yourself from us non nutritious junkies. My GPS points me to the nearest McDonalds when I am on the roads. Both Clinton and Trump have been pictured eating McDonald's. My MCD stock has appreciated from 25 to 153. Not bad.

Yeah, I know. I'm practically a communist. Except that I love Krispy Kreme and the majority of the Mom and Pop donut places through out TX, NV, UT, CA and, LA.
I don't really have it in for chains, just the ones that exist only because people patronize them because they are convenient rather than tasty.
