Knocking sound heard in trunk

Hello all

I bought a '08 335 convertible to drive in the summe and I noticed a knocking sound coming from the trunk area when going over major bumps, when the top is up. The only thing I can think of is the sliding cover (that has to be pulled out to put the top down) is moving. I noticed one side is a little loose. Everything else seems to be secured in the trunk. Any help would be great appreciated

Thanks

Might be bad shock mount. Not uncommon for them to rust out and cause the shock to bounce around in the tower.

I recommend you do both upper and lower mounts for both sides. Might also be a good idea to swap out the stock shocks. Especially if they are near or over 100k miles. Bilstein sells the pair of OE replacements for about $150

Could it still be that if I don't hear the sound all the time. The car only has 56k miles on it too. I didn't hear the sound when I first bought it last year or when I took out of storage this year. Started about a month or so ago.

I had the shock mounts go bad back there and I would hear loud bangs as I hit a big bump. Sounds like that's what you have going on

It's not so much an mileage thing, but more so age. It's actually not the mount itself but a small cup that the bump stop sits in that rusts. This piece prevents the shock from going through the upper mount though.
