+1 this is getting my really curious now!

I know about the conv. top catch bulletin. I dont think that is related to the fluttering though. Someone stated this happens to them with the windows up or down. So with the windows it wouldnt matter if the top is completely closed or not as there is still wind noise coming in from the windows.

Drivetrain. Possibly, but the only thing I can see it being in the drivetrain is the driveshaft of center support for the driveshaft. But only on the E93's? That just doesnt make sense to me b.c its the same as the E92's

Does anybody have aftermarket wheels on their E93? Like some 19's with good non-runflat tires like Michelin PS2's maybe? Im getting a set of 19's for my E90 335i towards the end of the month and if the problem hasnt been found by then, I might swap them on Alito's car for a few days and see how the car rides if he agree's.

Thanks for giving us your opinion. I would love to do that. Problem is I am going to probably love your wheels then I get to go back to mine..... - My comment on the drivetrain was based on a friend of mine who works for Olivetti racing (Rallie cars). My friend stated that there was a Mustang in the 80's that had a similar problem and it was due to some weight issues of the car being too light in the back and "hopping". I know BWM is 50/50 wt distribution so I do not think so either but at this point it is becoming so anoying that I'll try anything... Thanks 1clean335. Talk to you soon.

Any more news on the mystery noise? Is there a confirmed fix from BMW yet? Please post bulletin number if there is one.

I put new tires on my car. Have not had time yet to see how it works. Got Michelin Pilot Sport ZP (zero pressure). We'll see. Has anyone taken their cars to the dealer for this yet?

I'm almost positive it's not the tires. There's probably something wrong with the roof alignment. I originally sent my e93 in because the roof completely froze when I tried to close it. A new part was installed to fix the problem and prevent any more misalignments when the roofs closes. As soon as I got it back, I noticed the fluttering at speeds above 45 mph (which was never there before). It's back at the dealer, and a part to fix the problem is supposedly on national backorder. I wish I had the part number, but I still don't even have my car back. FYI, this is the third time my car has been into the dealer. I suffered from the dreaded iPod/FM switching problem as well. I suppose this is what I get for buying the first model year of a car...

I agree with you. My new tires do ride nicer and softer that the Bridgestones but the fluttering is DEFINATELY still there. I will mention the roof thing to my dealer and see what happens. As soon as you hear anything please post. Thanks.

Does anyone know if there is a way to directly contcat and or write BMW-NA and discuss this issue or does it always have to be through the dealership?

Called BWM Customer service 1800-831-1117 and was told to ask for a BMW engineer to be at the dealership. No answer from cust. relations on anything though. As a matter of fact, the customer relations person sounded clueless and continually referred me to the dealer. Even when asking to see if 335 convertible had an available trunk cargo liner, she deferred me to the dealership. BMW website link of accessories states they do have one but the dealer stated to me, that they do not (I believe them). When I told her the website was wrong, she stated call the dealer. Why have customer relations when all you say is call the dealer... Anyone got any other answers? This is pothetic for a $60K car.

BMWNA is clueless

I called today. A total waste of time. My complaint was "noted" and I was referred to my dealer. If anyone is successful in reaching someone who has a clue, please post. I plan to call the nearest dealer tomorrow and talk to the service manager. I may have a rough time since I bought my car through Adrian in Atlanta. Oh well, so the story goes.

Apparently the flapping is cause by the rubber underneath the joints along the roof coming out. I couldn't believe that it could create such a loud noise, but sure enough, my dealer fixed it. No more fluttering at speeds over 45 mph.

What rubber? At the seams on the roof? I can't see that any rubber is protruding from my roof seams but I do have some noise at about 50 mph.

Yeah, I had rubber protruding from the seams. If you can't see it, then I'm not sure what it is. But that's definitely what my problem was.

My roof seems to align well and the rubbers all seem to be in place. Just seems so strange that it is at 40+ to about 70mph and then dissapears.... it is driving me bananas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I drove my car to work today for the first time and experimented at different speeds with the top up. Noise seems to start at around 50 continuing to about 65. Putting down the windows masks the noise but can't tell if it actually stops the noise or if the wind simply makes it seem to go away. I do not see any protruding rubber at my roof seams. Sent an email to the closest dealer but no reply as of tonight. BTW, I am running non-RFT tires so RFTs are not the cause.

My dealership is letting me know when the BMW engineer is going to be by the dealer and will see my car. He supposedly comes in to see unusual cases and difficult repairs. He goes to several dealers and communicates with other engineers so may know of this issue. My dealer really has done their best to figure out what it is but cannot, hopefully this engineer can... Makes me wonder, with the I-pod issue and now this... does BMW actually test their cars ? How could you NOT notice ? Specially as driving enthusiast company.... Anyway, I will keep you all posted. If anyone has a fix PLEASE post it ASAP !! Thanks

someone was nice enough to have the great idea of placing a survey on this web site on fluttering. Please take the survey. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sea...archid=3788973 I forwarded the survey and this post to BMW so that they can see it exists.
Thanks

Curious as well if anyone has resolved this. Is it definitely loose rubber strips between the metal sections of the roof that are loose for some people??
