MalibuMafiaV and his boost

Hope mods allow. Since this isn't an E46... but this is the only section I post in.

So we all know about my supercharged E46.

Now that I don't have an E46 I had to make the 335 special like the E46 was.
Everyone has JB4..... everyone has twin turbos or upgraded twin turbos.

I decided to be different and do a single Garrett GT35R. Enjoy the pics. And once the car is complete. I'll post more and some videos of course.

First pic is my girl holding the turbo so you can see how much bigger it is then her hand.

This pic is the custom single turbo exhaust manifold. With some custom wastegate and blow of valve.

The next two are of the progress.

And this is the car under construction.

Mal,

I know you`re gonna get a sh!tload of power out of that turbo, but how do you think it will affect the everyday driving capability ? One of the fastest cars I ever drove was a slantnose DP-935, with a seriously worked-over motor, all new forged internals, and a BIG-ass KKK turbo. The power was really flat below about 4500, but then.....WHAM ! You`d better be damn sure it was pointed in the right direction when the boost came on....it was like a quarter-turn dimmer switch hooked to a 1000-watt bulb....definitely crazy-fast, but a bit of a handful for day-to-day work.....

LOL! Smolck is so right.

It isn't my daily driver. I actually daily drive the M5.
There are a a lot of people that do daily drive a similar setup with smaller turbo and about 500whp instead of the set target I have of 700whp.

As you may know the N54 already came with forged internals mostly and is capable of producing over 800hp without any internal engine work. There is however the things around the setup that go bad.

I've already replaced HPFP, injectors and upgraded the fuel pumps ( yes pumps more then one ). It will be maxed out for direct injection that's for sure.

Although it might have a bit of turbo lag since the turbo is rather huge. The fact it's a top mount should help a lot I'm hoping.

With all that said... only time will tell lol.

Cool !
When you get everything buttoned up and roadworthy, pull up the Nelson Racing Engines site on YouTube, and use that as a guideline for "How To Make A Proper Road Test Video"

I saw a guy with a stock (I think) 335, with just a JB4 setup, he was running mid-12s @ 110 in the quarter-mile....that`s quite respectable !

Yours should kick some ass !

So... what does it feel like to know you basically strapped a jet engine to your motor?

I bet the noises your car will make are going to be absolutely glorious.

Not sure yet. We've still got to put the charge pipe, intercooler, power steering reservoir on and flash the car.

Should be running by next week. I can imagine how it's going to sound though. Kinda like this.

What an awesome machine that's going to be!

As for the forum mods, I'm guessing the spirit of your departed E46 migrated into the body of this 335, sensing that this was its next incarnation upward in the great chain of automotive being...

Of course, 700 whp might force it migrate yet again, and come back as a Ferrari or something, lol!

I did indeed--Johnny told me about the turbo, so I had advance notification! Looking forward to seeing it in action.

This is all I have to add. I always figured I'd go with a roots setup so I'd get power distributed across the whole range rather than suffer from turbo lag into a boost range.

Yeah the lag will be a bit crazy with this large of a turbo.. but not necessarily since it's a top mount/so close to the exhaust ports.

In high school a buddy had a grand national with a huge turbo. It had a lag and was INSANE when the boost came on. It was the most fun I've ever had, until we crashed........

Question

I have a ZHP in relatively good shape with 164,00 miles, and I've been kicking around the idea of boosting it with a supercharger.

What do you guys recommend for me?
What's the best company to deal with?

Thanks
