Charge Pipes in California

.

Friends, sad news in California....most if not all aftermarket charge pipes do NOT have CARB certification, and without the cert sticker, CANNOT be smogged here.

No ifs, ands, or buts....our boys manning smog stations just can't do it! Gotta go stock.

.

Custom Performance Engineering aluminum charge pipe with silicone boot and TIAL BOV was ~$350.

About same as BMW charge pipe alone. Turner does a little better.

I can't believe that was even checked during an inspection.

Some Eastern states have vehicle inspections - Delaware has facilities the citizenry visits for top to bottom inspection.

California just has smog certification, which many CARB certified gas stations offer for a fee. They look only at emissions, and all engine equipment affecting same must be CARB certified.

Oy! The opposite of Yo.

Just stick a Dinan intake carb EO sticker on the radiator support and call it a day?

Technically, that may be a crime! I'll just score the right part - that CPe pipe's been sitting on my shelf, what, 4-5 years? Seemed like its time had come.....

Ahh, I went with the TurboSmart diverter valves also in black. The silicone hoses are a dead give away so maybe I'll just toss the factory diverted valves in and see if the smog tech over looks the CP.

I'm due next year in April so I have some time.

I had mine smogged and all they did was plug in to the obd 2 port and run "readiness" tests. Never saw them open the hood or stick something in my tailpipe. Pass!

Yeah, cars after 2000 only require an OBD2 scan. The tech is supposed to pop the hood and perform a visual inspection.
