2017 X5 split camera view

I saw online that the 7 series (and I think the 5 series) can show both the surround-view and the front or rear camera view side-by-side. I can't find a setting to do this in my new 2017 X5. I have all the cameras (and can see surround view OR front OR rear), and I thought I had the newest hardware version of iDrive, so this confuses me. Do I need a software update (I think that happens OTA, but not sure)?

Here's an example from the internet of what I mean:

Mine looks like this (also an example from the internet):

I have a 2017 X5 and all I'd ever noticed was the version you said you had (the second one). Today, I was fiddling around with stuff while I was waiting for my wife, and when she finally came out and I put it in reverse and released the parking brake, I got the first view you showed, with the surround view on the left and the rear view camera on the right. I have no idea what I did to get that view. I'd been fiddling with the surround view while in my parking space just looking at the lines, the cars next to me, and so forth, going back and forth to different views. So I don't know what I did or where it was set when she finally came out and I backed up.

So I'm pretty sure it's possible with our hardware and software, I just don't know how.

I'm also quite curious. Will play around with the settings again tomorrow. Just to add: In the 2014 if I chose the top view it'd stay there for the next time. With the 2017 it would default back to the rear view each time, and I'd I have to add those extra few clicks to turn on the top view again. A bit annoying.

I have a '16 750 and just bought the wife a '17 X5 a couple days ago. Definitely different systems. I have no problem in the 750 doing what is stated in the first post. I have messed around looking for similar in the new X5 and have only found what you have above. Still researching.....

Do you even have top/surround view? Usually that view is when you have park distance control and rear view camera only.
