Limp mode issue

I have a 2007 335i. Pulls hard in first and second gear but anything above 4,000 RPM starting in 3rd gear throws my car into limp mode. I'm getting no codes. I can't find a vacuum leak. And I'm at a loss trying to figure out why it would be doing this. Any help?

To take your description literally, the fault is dependent upon BOTH High RPM & High Load.

(1) When you say "throws my car into limp mode" do you mean it continues to run rough, misfire, shut down one or more injector(s) or whatever it is doing that you feel as a performance issue UNTIL you turn it off & restart (or does it "correct itself" w/o restart) ??

(2) Does restart result in normal operation until you again do >4,000 RPM in >2nd gear?

(3) Are you SURE there is NO misfire code: P0300 - P0306??

(4) NO Freeze Frame Data?

(5) Have you tried reading parameters and/or codes DURING operation, or BEFORE you shutdown?

The problem may be in your boost system, and I am NO help there.

George

It does not run rough it just loses its balls. Like it cuts out the turbos the car runs normally.

No codes? If you are sure there are no codes, the coils and plugs would be a good place to start. Any starting problems? Like long starts?

That's why I'm so confused. Starts quickly keeps a good idle. If I pound it and keep the RPMs high through my shifts it seems to do better also but it still feels like something is missing. It's hard to even explain. I'm at a loss without a code. I'm hoping to get my hands on a BT scanner maybe it's some ghost code I'm not picking up, possibly a bad tune? I was told it was Cobb but I don't have a Cobb access port to see what parameters are being ran. My next idea is to get a diag ran at a preformance shop

This can be a lot of things but my stab n the dark is bad waste gates, boost solenoids, or vanos solenoids.

There's gotta be a shadow fault in the DME. Use a BMW specific scanner. Generic scanners will not pull shadow faults.

Wait it's Cobb Tuned? If there are truly no codes then maybe you want to bring it back to stock or get it retuned. The tune might be your problem.

As easy way to check is to compare it with a stock 335i with the same engine. If your car feels significantly more powerful then chances are there is some sort of tune on it.

Reduced power on exceeding 4k rpm? You take a peek at your charge pipe at the throttle body.

Make sure you use a good quality comprehensive BMW scanner to check for codes. Not just your typical autozone scanner. Otherwise bring the scan tool with you, put the car into limp mode (cel) and THEN scan the car.

Does the car go into limp mode as soon as it changes gear?

I don't understand, does the engine run rough and feel like it's misfiring when you go into limp mode? Does it run fine again when you restart it?
