A few unrelated questions, again, with my appreciation to this group for all of the collective wisdom while I was in a year-long decision process (or rather wife was in the decision process):
1) Garage Door Opener
Trying to memorize garage door opener setting. Manual merely said to begin process by holding "left and right" buttons under rear-view mirror for 20 sec or until the LED blinked repeatedly. There are 3 buttons. I have held left+right as well as every other permutation. The LED remains solid and I can't proceed beyond that step.
2) Should the trunk button on key fob raise tailgate? Mine does not.
3) Stickers inside driver's door give conflicting info on tire inflation. Large sticker specifies 42 lb rear and smaller yellow sticker 45 lb. Interesting because I've never inflated tires to that extent before. I presume that should I need to inflate tire, I would then need to reset TPI afterwards.
I would say thus far that the only thing I dislike about the vehicle is BMW's choice of OEM tire. Those Eagle RSA's are lousy tires and I'm debating replacing them with the Conti ExtremeContact DWS that TireRack seems to like. I noted that to BMW by the way and actually did get a call from corporate. Alas it was not an offer to replace to tires but merely "thank you for your feedback."
I fought the garage door thing also. I kept trying to do it with the ignition on (which is what my manuals states)with no luck. Just for kicks I actually started the car and the procedure worked like a charm. You may try that.
Sorry I can't help on the tailgate issue.
Those are high tire pressures for sure. Does it state those pressures are for a fully loaded wagon with 5 people on board and the cargo area full? That's the only way I could imagine the tires would need to have those kinds of pressures. In an otherwise empty care I would expect like 32-35 lbs.
(1) Re: the garage door opener, it could be that your garage door has a rolling code. I had problems encoding my car's garage door opener, and I went to the homelink website (http://www.homelink.com/home/global.taf) for instructions, which was very helpful.
(2) Re: the trunk button, I have a sedan, not a wagon, but for the sedan the trunk button on the key fob needs to be pushed down for a few seconds before the trunk lifts. Be aware that if you keep the button pushed too long, the alarm will go off. I have no idea why pushing on the trunk button doesn't immediately cause the trunk to lift...
(3) Re: tire pressure, I don't really have a perspective on this...sorry.
(2) If you have the premium package (which I think you do) the tailgate should raise when you press the key fob.
(3) Look in the owner's manual if you want to get even more conflicting information on tire pressure. I would start as a baseline with the tire pressures in the owner's manual for your particular tire and wheel combination and speed. I have the 18 inch M Wheels with 245/40 rubber. All my driving on this car so far has been under 100 mph so I use the factory recommended 32/39. Works for me so far, but I will experiment once I get more miles on the car.
Once you get the tire pressures set where you want, reinitialize the TPM.
Yes, I have Premium Package and no, tailgate does not lift when depressing key fob whether vehicle is on or off.
My garage door opener is a rolling code but I can't even get that far. First step is to clear whatever memory is in the vehicle and I can't even get the LED in car to blink.
Tailgate - Check the key slot if it is in vertical or horizontal orientation. If it is in horizontal position, it is likely locked. Unlock it... owner's manual should help you.
Homelink - if you are the first owner, there may not be any data to clear from memory. Start the car and do the remote and 4-inches process. With the remote 4-inches or less from the Homelink, press the remote and a key at the same time until the LED blinks... approx 10 ~ 15 sec.
2) Should the trunk button on key fob raise tailgate? Mine does not.
3) Stickers inside driver's door give conflicting info on tire inflation. Large sticker specifies 42 lb rear and smaller yellow sticker 45 lb. Garage Door solved. Took about 12 tries and finally everything decided to cooperate.
No luck yet with tailgate but hardly worth making a special trip for service at this point.
Thanks to everyone...
