I did ED for my new 550xi on May 17th and dropped off in Geneva on May 22. After a long..long..long journey on WW Integrity, my car was dropped off at Brunswick VPC on 7/1.
Just received my PCD date (they can't book until ED cars clear customs...), and I'm set for Friday, July 27th.
My wife and infant daughter are flying with me to the PCD, then driving back to Texas.
I know children under 12 are required to stay in the cafe at the Performance Center, but can my wife and I trade off so we both get to do the driving activities? Or, should she hang back and check out Greenville, SC while I go through the program that morning.
This has been asked several times with Jonathan, who works at the Performance Center, providing very good guidance (you may want to look through some recent threads or do a search). The best plan seems to be having one of you stay at the Marriott until late morning and then coming over for lunch (if they are not crowded that day, you'd just pay for one) and delivery. The problem I see with trading off is the time required to get from the building to the track. The events are set up for a quick rotation from driver to passengers seat. Another easy thing you might be able to do if you are with your daughter would be to visit the BMW museum in the factory across the street. It would be possible to walk from the factory to the performance center but it's a pretty good hike and you have to cross a busy street - might not be a good idea after all. The spouse with your daughter might still get a hot lap - those are a blast and we did them after lunch right before delivery. You stand around outside the building waiting so the transition would be easier.
But getting up late and visiting the pool at the Marriott or something and then coming over late morning is definitely doable.
Unfortunately one of you would have to stay with the child in the cafe while the other person goes through the program. Driver rotations happen on track as there is not enough time to go back to the building to make a change.
There is really nothing to see or do at our facility for someone that is waiting. I would highly recommend arranging a late checkout with the Marriott, especially with an infant. If the hotel is not extremely busy, they could shuttle them downtown or to the Zentrum as Jim recommended. I would not recommend trying to walk there from our facility. There are several really nice parks in downtown Greenville - http://www.greenvillesc.gov/Culture/FamilyThingsToDo.aspx
I will see you there Scott....I am booked for the same day!
