Really want to sort ut soon as the window keeps sliding down on it's own .any help really appreciated thanks kelly
You're talking about the door handle surround, correct?
There are little hooks on the back side.
You have to slightly lift it with a putty knife and push it forward (toward the front of the car).
Been looking on the Internet and says I need sone butyl tape to attach to the little circle cover behind the interior door opener .is there another way or something I can use instead if the tape which I dont have
I'm sorry but I have mis-spoke. I assumed you were talking about a Z3, not a Z4. I don't know how those doors come apart.
For a Z3, and most cars I have dealt with, the entire inner door seal is held in place with butyl tape, and you have to remove it to get to anything inside the door. You will probably need a roll of it, and it's readily available in auto parts stores and online.
The butyl tape is a caulk that comes in a roll. I bought mine from a Volvo dealer(part no.11617820) but I believe it was $20 or more. The plug covering the screw behind the door handle is a snap fit. To remove it, take a small piece of the tape and roll it into a ball and try to stick it to the plug by pressing it against it for a few moments. Then pull it out. This may take a few tries. You may be able to fine something else to do the job such as Scotch Poster Putty.
I just went through the butyl tape thing. Turns out it's very easy to get if you know that it's also sold as a product for installing windows. NAPA has it or can get it, such as this:
Under $10 for a 15' roll, super sticky and stuck well even when applied at about 40 degrees. I've only used it for one door panel (foam vapor barrier) so far, but it appears that the 15' roll will do both doors.
1/4" is about the right size. The stuff is also easy to find in a thicker diameter, but much more than about 1/4" would be too much.
I have a Z3 M Coupe, but your Z4 should probably have the same stuff. (I also noted that people trying to tell you how to take off the door handle surround have Z3's, not Z4's, and I don't know of the Z3 procedure applies to a Z4).
