This is a new thread from what we were discussing in the "trunk lid" thread.
As a few of us had noted, there wasn't much available (other than high-end expensive units) available for our 6 series as far as front lips.
That was until member "6er" located these on the EBay-Germany site. Which I feel (my opinion) are perfect. They are on their Ebay site for 199 euros, which is about $269 USD.
I have contacted the company and they would ship to U.S, however the shipping is fairly expensive. They would offer a discount if we buy a few (10%), but we would need to look into a possible cheaper shipping source (if able).
In the meantime, I am ordering one first cause we probably need to make sure these are decent (i'll take one for the team).
Just thought I would gauge some interest here by the rest of you if these turn out to be decent quality.
Dear customer, Thank you for the interest in our products. Sorry, we don´t ship tp usa. +++ Sollten Sie noch weitere Fragen oder Wünsche haben, so kontaktieren Sie uns! +++
Yeah it is worth a try. You won't regret it too. That lip sharpens up the front no end. Plus at high speeds, she's definitely more planted and turns in better.
If Madmotors can ship to me I'd think they ship anywhere . Only downside is that only once you place an order with them do they order it from CSR in Germany. It then gets shipped to them before it gets shipped to you. No major dramas though as the whole process from my order to taking delivery only took about 3 weeks I think.
OUCH.... who did you use to do your currency exchange?? Seems very steep..... think mine will work out more like $425 (if my old company gives me a good deal)
and it was 4 something, so i just rounded up to 5. i did it at work and i was posting from my daughters ballet class, so i was just going by memory, which is also bad.
thanks to ss for the idea and the beautiful pics. i love the rings and didnt really read the posts until later. just saw the lip and kept wondering why yours looked so much better than the csr pic. they need to pay you for use of your car as the model.
for anyone interested, i bought off ebay uk site- mad motors. csr would not ship to usa. and mad motors was not interested in matching csr's sale price on ebay ( its on special now, for all you european buyers) nor were they interested in a group buy option. so its everyman for himself.
in the end, ss's pics sealed the deal for me and i paid full price for part, shipping from germany to uk, then from uk to usa. then rings, paint, install. - not cheap. oh well. nothing worthwhile ever is.
thanks again ss
The "metallic circles" you speak of are the brake duct rings we are talking about above. Active Autowork had a kit for the old 5 series many moons ago and I actually created my own rings back in 2005 when I had my 540i. Then, I did them on my E39 M5 as well. I had some laying around and decided to try them on my 6er. As previously stated, I mounted them in the easily replaceable portions of the lower grill that just snap out.
whoa , snap out? im about to do this mod and am yanking on the two side squares of the lower grill. i dont want to break these pieces and am putting quite a bit of pressure on them. did yours just pop out? or are there some sort of hidden screws that i should be messing with? i was just thinking of cutting out the holes while mounted on the car and just shoving the rigs into the grill. thanks in advance for anybodys input on this.
What did u end up replacing her with?
I'm getting the lip installed now - sorta brittle fiberglass and mine is slightly narrower than the front end , we cracked it trying to stretch it around bumper, as not to damage more, we have to grind the back edges of the bumper cover to make the lip fit without cracking.
For those of us who fitted it, we loved the look. It really makes the front look much more purposeful. Downsides were that you really have to be careful scraping it against speed bumps and approach/descend ramps at car parks and such. I cracked mine a couple of times and ended up getting under there and beefing up key areas with fibreglass filler (Davids Isopon P40). It's actually not lower than the original bumper, but it increases the overhang from the front wheels as it projects out. That coupled with the fact that it's a fairly thin piece means it does make contact occasionally. I found that filling up some areas strengthened it no end and it tolerates scrapes better (without breaking, you still get some paint scuffs).
Yeah, i know......I was hesitant to post in such an old thread, but I liked the look of it and wanted some information. Thanks for all of the great info you provided.
Nice Matty, love the matt highlights on the edges there
LOL on the sprint booster But notice in your sig that you have an AFE air intake. How did that feel after install?
I did my exhaust system. Ditched the resonators and the original x-over. Had a local shop fab up a proper X type x-over. Could not believe the diff it made to not just power but overall driveability of my 645ci. Cut open the original BMW x-over and realised how restrictive it was.
I have a contact in Canada that may be able to get this lip. I think it may be a replica. It's fiberglass. Should be more cost effective than shipping from EU.
Did you install the lip we got from Germany on your car or did extremeparts make a new one.
Good to know where to get one if I damage mine. I don't have that connection for free shipping anymore.
