OK, so I need help. Spring has sprung, and I'm anxious to resume taking my bike out after work.
Problem: Where do I put it? I need a rack that will go onto a convertible, and that I can also lock onto the car in some fashion. My current Rhode Gear model came with a goofy cable-and-ball system; you are supposed to put the plastic balls in the trunk and slide the cable around the rack. The finely tuned German engineering of my trunklid prevents it from closing with the cables running into the trunk, though.
Ideas? Anyone ever put a mountain bike (sans wheels, of course) into the back seat of a convertible?
I found this page via Google. It looks like a page from Circle BMW's website that is no longer actively linked. It may end up being a misleading page, but as it is, I'd look into what those part numbers listed actually correspond to. The thing is, I recall seeing somewhere a true roof rack for E36 convertibles. I do not recall when or where.
Also, you could always just use the kind that straps on to the trunklid. I know those are known to screw up one's paint, but if you have no other options...

Not sure exactly how it attaches, and the price is a bit steep, but it may be worth looking into.
