Great Forum!
Just wanted to introduce myself and share how much useful information I found just using search on this forum before I even joined. BF greatly assisted me with finding the E38 that I liked.
Originally I only wanted a late production 740i Sport, but I quickly found out that those cars are unicorns if you wants one with decent miles and in decent condition, and dreams don't always come true, so towards the the end I ending up getting something completely the opposite. It's a 08/00 production date 740iL, titanium silver metallic with gray leather, I know it's most common combination but it doesn't bother me too much, I got over that age of buying a car based on the color or how the wheels look. In 3 weeks I put 500 miles on the car since the purchase and I enjoyed every little bit of it, I've driven and ridden in other e38's a few times before and was always amazed by how well balanced the car is and always loved the conservative timeless design. In that time I brought the car from 6 to 8 on my 1-10 scale, replaced seeping reservoir to power steering hose, fixed the glove box latch, got new seat back magazine holder, upgraded from original 4:3 Nav display to 16:9 and DVD based MK4 Nav, got 4 5.25" OEM rear woofers, and one front door loudspeaker, rocker panels clips the, belts, hoses and radiator. The longer I had the car the more imperfections I found, it's almost like a minor restoration project. Making sure that there's no leaks and getting the necessary scheduled maintenance done was more of a priority for me than getting appearance upgrades. Now it's sitting on staggered silver MRR GT1's 20x8.5 front and 20x10 back, there also a Dinan carbon fiber CAI, except it's in the trunk and not under the hood. I made a rush purchase and then realized that plastic below stock air box has to be cut and front bumper has to be dropped for install, and I decided that it's too much headache for too little difference. So far it's been a ongoing project. I'll start uploading some pictures eventually, still trying to get familiar with the forum. It's great to be a part this enthusiastic community. Val |
