Looks like heavily modified detroit iron to me. The lines remind me of a GM F Body. Something like a Firebird convertible. If not than your user name suggests a Dodge or Plymouth.
Pretty, if not the least BMW-like for the time. What a terrific example of the style sensibilities of its era, though--the Space Age/Mod vibe is really goin' on! If I saw it at a concours I would half-expect someone in a velvet Nehru jacket and Beatle boots to come running up, jump in and drive off with a cry of "Thunderbirds are go!"
Yeah, definitely uglier than the Z1! Maybe it would look better with a different paint job, but that interior makes me want to barf...into the interior!
That years. That design definitely belong to America. The grills look like they are sticked to the front.
IMO, its someone swapped the bmw engine into a american muscle body. Then trying to show some appreciation to the company by convert it into BMW with logo and grills
