We talk about firearms in the OT thread an awful lot, and while it's OT to BMW, it gets talked about frequently enough to probably use it's own thread.
SO: the main purpose will be to openly discuss and share photos of and about firearms. This IS NOT to be a political thread, we all have our opinions about it and this ain't the place for it, so check it at the door. This is going to be a friendly thread about reviews, acquisitions, advice, and general discussion.
Okay so there will be some ground rules
No attempts to buy or sell any firearm, ammo, or components
keep politics to an abosolute minimum
no fanboy circlejerks
do not post pictures or videos of you or anyone else engaging in risky or otherwise illegal behavior
always use proper safe firearm handling techniques
do not take any legal advice from here, we're not lawyers and thusly not liable for anything stupid or illegal that you or someone may or may not do
it is okay to post pictures from hunts, but no blood/gore please
use common sense when posting, if it seems wrong, it probably is.
This list will be amended as time goes on I'm sure but these are a few of the basics that immediately come to mind.
your initial thoughts nailed it. Hi-cap mags are legal in mass as long as they are "pre-ban" Massachusetts passed their own AWB in sept. of 1994 which was pretty much the same as the federal one. We're working on having it repealed though. there is no sunset clause on it though
Buying this Mossberg 500 for $200 from my brother. He's got a pistol grip for it as well, and his friend has the full kit to swap in a legal 14" barrel. Going to be my new home defense weapon.
Ooo I like Sigs. I've been eyeing their 1911s for a while now. Can you find much in wisco to feed it? The only caliber that is harder to find than 9mm around here is .22lr. Some LGSs with a range are completely out.
The cheap 9mm Winchester can be found at a lot of Walmarts, but anything other than FMJ is nearly impossible to purchase here in stores. Luckily, my younger brother has quite an impressive stockpile laying around
I know my brother also has a bunch of 22lr, but I dont know about its availability elsewhere.
That settles it. I'll blame my ammo shortage on my parents not giving me a younger brother.
Walmart is a barren wasteland here. People line up before gander mtn opens on Friday because the ammo comes in Thursday night. The flipping then starts in the parking lot.
It sucks because I originally picked the sr9 due to the price and availability of 9mm ammo. :what:
Went to the range during lunch today. There's nothing like a little recoil therapy on a Friday afternoon. The LGS/range I went to is completely out of 9mm and .380 though the owner said they had 180k 9mm rounds when they opened on Dec. 15th. Its been long gone for a while.
I wish there were ranges that I could just go to, every range in Mass requires a membership and there's hardly any place to go safely/legally shoot in the woods.
This one I went to is several months "old" and has fancy ammenities. I swear I played with the target runner for 10 minutes. I had never seen a digital target runner. No more guessing on distance!
Woohoo I found some 9mm at a range near my GF's parents house. I'm back in bidness!
Has anyone made their own 3-point sling? I've found a couple DIYs that outline the process. It sounds easy enough and the materials cost is less than $10. No-brainer, right?
I have a G20 they are great guns I like the fact you can shoot 40 or 10 mm don't think anyone can argue the 10 is powerful enough for any home defense and the 40 is reasonable priced ammo for practice glocks are extremely reliable all in all I think that makes these great guns.
They're great guns, IF the grip fits your hand.. everyone I've talked to that dislikes Glock (myself included) all point to the grip as the culprit. I've had mine for going on 6 years and I STLL cant get used to it.
I'll be getting a full sized 9mm, its going to be my duty gun for work, and will be double as home defense. I loved the 226 I held, 10 seconds in my hand was all I needed
I have had automatics and revolvers. Good home defense, hunting and fun to shoot. Look into Colt .357 Mag revolver or even Smith & Wesson Revolvers. I will stack them for accuracy aand reliability over any automatic. My Colt .357 revolver replaced my 45 auto in my 2nd & 3rd tours in Viet Nam.
How expensive is .357 ammo though? I know around here the .357 and anything in .45 is stupid expensive to shoot. Seems like most people nowadays dont really want a revolver as their home defense gun if they have children.
If I was looking for an inexpensive all around gun, you cant really go wrong with a Springfield XD or a Glock, assuming it fits your hands. The Springfield XD is better than the Glock IMO, the trigger is better, and the grip is 10x better.
