Any high mileage 6'ers out there? By high mileage, I'm talking at least a 100,000 miles or more. Even if you're not a high mileage 6'er, post up the current mileage and condition of your 6.
I'll go first. Bought this car in January 2013 with 55k miles on the clock. At 58.2k miles right now and have to do the vacuum pump soon. Had the Mechatronics sleeve replaced under CPO a few weeks ago.
08 650i 6mt, 50k miles now...my radiator reservoir developed a leak, draining all the coolant, causing me to be stranded. Also the HVAC stopped working too about 5k miles back. Everything repaired under warranty. What else is in store for me hehe
ok so I have 129K and I just changed my alternator, and my valve covers are leaking but other than that I drive it to work 75 miles each way everyday and proud of it!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't change a thing after driving a 6er I don't want to drive anything else!!!!
This is my commute also, south OC to LA every day.
My 08 650 is at 99k miles and my extended BMW platinum warranty is about to expire at 100k miles.
I've had the CCU replaced and all the filters and maint items, but I'm wondering what I might expect moving forward. I actually have been wimping out and driving a leased Hyundai the last six months I'm terrified of breaking the barrier. The Hyundai is a decent beater but I'm losing my mind with the lack of fight she is missing.
Wife drives a '13 x5 5.0 and so I can't avoid feeling like the guy from the Incredibles movie when I drive to work.
Any any idea what's next, what will break and what kind of costs I'm up for in my near future?
Also could use a competent honest Indy mech if you have any tips.
'08 650 vertte! 40,000 miles. I have had it for just over one year and bought it with roughly 28,000 miles. I have done the normal oil change/maintenance and replaced the brakes (under warranty). I also had to replace the vacuum pump (also under warranty). So far, no other major problems.
The question is all wrong...you should also ask how long have you had the car. Some guys who answer have only had the car for 4 or 5 months! Let us know your list after 3 or 4 years of ownership.
2006 car with 55k miles, I have owned it since 9/2009, bought it with 28k miles. I am not including oil changes, tires, or fluid flushes, only repairs or standard repairs that occur less than standard timeframe:
FIXED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY CPO:
mechatronics sleeve replaced
steering angle sensor
windshield washer pump
dash cluster failed
ARS block failure
convertible top-unlocked error, bracket fixed per TSB. Still occurs infrequently
REPAIRED MYSELF:
Vacuum Pump
Battery (2.5 year old battery)
REPAIRS NEEDED:
mechatronic sleeve or tranny pan - leaking
valve covers - leaking

I bought my 2005 645ci at 18 months old with 16k on the clock. Sold last year April with 84k on the clock. Only real problem was squealing breaks, took a while to sort but fixed eventually. As for other faults, oil leaks, transmission etc absolutely nothing that caused me to payout any real money, small issues fixed by myself !!!!!!!! even had the original battery.
2006 650 purchased new via European delivery 1/2006 Now has 92,125 miles and so far running strong with no mechanical problems......yet! Just regular p/m's... oil change every 5,000 miles, tranny, differential, and p/s fluid changed @ 60,000, brake fluid and coolant every 2 years etc. Just did brakes/rotors and looking to do spark plugs and coils soon.
I'm very surprised at the low mileage totals quoted by the US/Canadian members. You have a massive land mass with comparatively great roads, public transport doesn't seem to be as popular as it is in Europe (based on my visits to the US). I have done a few road trips through California, Nevada, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsyvanlia, New Jersey, Conneticut, Maryland, Virginia & DC & clocked up lots of miles in a short period of time. How are you guys keeping your mileage so low? To add insult to injury your gas prices are 50% (maybe more) cheaper than what we can buy here in Europe, another excuse to jump in the car.
Me? I have owned my e63 for just shy of 2 years, had 65k miles when I bought it, 91k now, so that's 13k per year. Most of those were clocked up on one of our few Motorways between Cork & Dublin.
The failures in my ownership:
- VANOS soleniod, exhaust side (€90)
- Track control arm (€360, incl alignment)
- Puncture
- Thermostat (€110)
- Cracked rear wheel, style 218 (€330, 2nd hand unmarked)
Then usual service items & minor cosmetic upgrades
Mine is an 07 650i 6MT purchased in 09 (2 year lease return) with 13k miles. It is my second car in the winter and third car in the summer so I don't put a ton of miles on it - it now has 37k miles.
Only repair has been a failed passenger side sill plate that would not light up takend care of under warranty.
Out of pocket expenses have been upgrades, wear items and old school maintenance.
Upgrades are clutch delay valve bypass and short shift kit.
I replaced the original Bridgestone tires at 18k miles with Conti DSW's which are holding up really well.
Maintenance has been yearly oil change, trans and diff fluid change at 30k miles, brake fluid changes at 2 year intervals, coolant change at 4 year mark.
Battery is hooked to BMW tender when the car sits so it's still the original (as is the battery in my 02 330 convertible which is also on a tender during winter slumber.)
It still has low miles but so far the ownership experience has been fantastic. Loving this car, and the styling is so unique I'm thinking of keeping long term. I get more compliments on it now than when I first bought it.
2009 BMW 650I sports package, purchase on 5-10-12 with 2,619 miles current miles is 6,500. Replace under warranty CCC aka Nav unit, passenger seat sensor, 1 set of wiper blades and 1 oil change.
2005 BMW 650ci sports package purchase on 2-28-08 with 16,819 miles, died on 8-28-11 with 50.195 miles. Cause of death got caught in a flooded street. Was resurrected sometime in January 2012 after car was exported to the country of Lebanon.
Under warranty fixes

A pillar clips - had a squeak
A pillar - still had squeak
Retighten Engine Torsion brace - still had squeak

All of those above at about 43,000 miles
Replace driver seat back cover plastic screws 35,000 miles
Replace driver seat back cover 38,000 miles
Replace driver seat frame 40,150 miles
CCC aka Nav - BMW pick up the bill, I had to pay $200 my Nav went out 2 months after my warranty end, 45,000 miles
Replace rear wheel bearing 40,150 miles
Out of pocket
I replaced my thermostat after getting an increase emission warning light came on and flush my coolant. 48,000 miles
about to turn 100,000 on my 05 vert. Had a few vert problems under warranty seems to be fine now. Replaced tranny under warranty seems to be fine now. At 100k there are a few creaks and I know I will spend around $3,000/yr for the next 2 years I have her but that's nothing for this car calibre. Next car is going to be a 2012 991. Overall very happy with the car for the last 4 years.
I may move to a Camaro convert...It's hard because I love a 6, but I don't want to spend all my money on maint!!! lol!! This car is like a woman...you never get to pay it off (Maint)!!
