Hello Bimmerfest Community...

I've been in my Mineral White 328i Sport for a week now and don't remember enjoying a car this much. The new 4 cylinder or its progeny, if times proves reliability, could go down as a classic.

It's taken me a while to get back to a 3 series, even though it may be my favorite car platform because while driving an E46 during 2004 the frame came apart at 35 miles per hour. BMW couldn't believe it and bought the car back. A couple of years later a mass 3 series recall was conducted to address this problem.

I'm still very proud to have apparently been one of the first people to stress the defect to the point of failure through reasonable but aggressive driving and survive.

But that's history I won't dwell on, I have extremely high satisfaction with the new vehicle so far but still am considering driving with a helmet and body armor.

For the record, the subframe issue was pretty much confined to the pre-2001 model-year E46s, and there was no recall per se, but it did lead to a Class Action Lawsuit which was settled in 2009. The terms of the lawsuit settlement provided a one-year window for owners to get their cars inspected (and repaired, if needed) at no charge.

Thank you! That would compute as my awareness of repairs came from a friend who owned a 3 series and waved a letter at me. But my model was for sure a 2002 and at the time everyone acted as though they'd never seen something like that, and not just those in the line of financial responsibility.
