Just bought a 2013 5.0 and while I really like the car, I hate the standard seats. Figured I could get someone to add some padding to the sides so they aren't so big, but the seams in the upper middle part of the seat are extremely hard and uncomfortable.
Has anyone found any solutions for this? Doesn't look like it's possible to just buy new seats. My dealer started to price it out but what they said didn't make much sense. They said just a few parts into it, it was 13k.
FYI- my comfort seats in my 08 aren't "comfortable" at all!! The seat bottom seams near the thigh bolster hit some kind of pressure point in my right thigh, perhaps because that's the gas pedal leg and in a slightly different position, and it just kills my leg. Not impressed. My wife's Prius seat is more comfortable. Shock..the heresy.
Feel your pain. Or at least my wife did. We had a '12 X5d with std seats. Passenger could not get comfortable. Traded it for a '13 X5 M Sport with multi contour seats and the difference is night and day. Drove 6 hours with no complaints. That's a difficult situation to be in unless you got such a good deal it won't cause too much pain ($) to switch it out. Good luck.
The standard seats in my X5 are far more superior than our Escalades seats (comfort and quality) so I'm not complaining! I do however hope to find ventilated comfort seats in the next X5.
I have sport seats ..., bottom part is hard as a rock in the middle ... now looking to swap for Comfort seats ... I'm told it is possible in LCI models. They are all pre-wired the same and need to be coded to accept the new seat ...
I have comfort seats in mine.. I know what it looks like and how it adjusts.. I was just curious if the sports seat adjusted in similar fashion and only difference would be the stitching? Thanks.
Does anyone know if the frame in the seats is all the same? Was talking to someone who thought it might be possible to swap out sections of the seat. Said the dealer likely wouldn't know how to price it out.
One other question, do the comfort seats have higher side bolsters?
Thanks. That makes it look like it may be possible as the frame looks like it's the same either eat. Does anyone have a good dealer with a knowledgeable parts dept? Would probably swap it out for the sport seats. My other issues is that I move around too much and my friends sport seats are much better. The firm cushions aren't an issue.
A good auto upholstery shop can rebuild your seats if that is what you need. Before going to that expense however you might find that a quality set of sheepskins might do the trick and have the added benefit of being cooler in summer and warmer in winter -- with never getting "too hot" in the sun. Of course, that is if you can handle "the look" which I personally find not objectionable.
For me the sports seat bottoms are fine but I have a very wide back and my back hurts a little when I am driving but it is only the side bolsters that are a problem I wonder if the side bolsters can be widened because the seat is fantastic for racing around in you don't move at all.
PoC: Prolly easier to add padding to the center, which has the effect of moving the side bolsters back and out... would be some work- AND trial and error. I suppose you could jerry-rig a pad, 1 inche, 1.5 inch...try it out for a while...before committing to an upholstery shop
Good idea I guess I could by a length of 1 inch thick memory foam and see if that works.
