Hi I have ordered an F10 535i that is build in week 29 and on its way.
I have read about all the new features in september builds regarding ipod cover art and bluetooth audio streaming. A lot of people have confirmed that cover art is already in some cars now. This can further be confirm when reading the press release on http://bmw.connecteddrive.info under the infotainment section:
Cover Arts.
Cover Arts displays audio files with album cover images.
Models: Since March 2010: BMW 3 Series Coupé, BMW 3 Series Convertible; since June 2010: BMW 5 Series Sedan; from production date September 2010: all models.
Now my question... Can anyone who have received an F10 with production after june 2010 confirm other september changes already in the car?
I can see and have read a lot about people trying desperately to move there slot to september build, perhaps without any reason, because the changes are already in the cars as of june...Anyone who can confirm?
As I see/read it the inclusion of 6VC ComBox Controller ensures the September technology upgrades
It just seems that officially BMW calls it september builds, but that this things are allready put into the cars.
Anyone who can confirm that they have the 6VC Combox Controller or the features allready in there received car?
That also talks about internet through cell phones - I didn't see that mentioned in the US bulletin. Any chance this website is talking about Euro-spec cars? It's common knowledge some of the Euro 3-series have had the album view for a while now, whereas the US versions haven't.
One of the new things for September builds is the possibility of reading email messages from a blackberry. The catch is that it only works on a blackberry with OS 6.0
I will be picking up my car on 8/12, the same day the new BBerry Torch comes out, with OS 6.0
I should be receiving my Torch on Friday, so I'll make sure to test that out and see how it works.
Also, I am taking my son's iPhone and standard USB cable -along with my son - to the PCD and will be able to test if the new iPod interfase was already installed in my July built 535i. If it works without the need for the Y cable, it would be a GREAT sign.
For me, the mobile integration is a BIG thing, considering the amount of time I'm in the vehicle and all the work you can get done while waiting at red lights, taking care of long and boring conference calls during my commute, etc. That's why I developed the first Aux integration kit and enabled the first Telephone interfase for SAAB back in January 2004...
Sorry if this has been asked somewhere else, but will we, who had our cars built before the new iPod integration stuff be able to get a software update in order to use it also, or is this box you are talking about a new hardware thing that we have missed?
According to the BMW product update bulletin, the new iPhone/USB interfase is a hardware update that is not retrofittable to pre-september builds. Having said that, the bulletin talks about the whole BMW product line, not only the F10. Being the F10 a new model year, there is a small chance that some late builds could already have some of the updates installed. I will keep my fingers crossed until I test mine on Thursday. No guarantees...
It appears that the US gets very few of these features. The ConnectedDrive website comes up with "Available in Global" and shows cool things like the cover art, but if you go to the "Available in...." tab and select USA it looks like we don't get a lot of the goodies, such as Cover Art.
I finally got my car today , but I confirmed that the iPhone 3G only works with the Y cable. It is not recognized if connected directly thru the Apple usb cable.
A question i have is whether a pre September build has the ability to display cover art just not to talk native USB to an iPhone 4OS Device. For instance if just attach a USB fob with cover art embedded MP3's does the cover art get displayed. A dealer car i tried in June appeared to do so buts it since been pointed out that dealers have had 'dealer spec' machines with commbox way before their production availability in September.
I have a late June prod 550i F10 (July 7th - ED) and I am having problems connecting my iphone 4 and iTouch to my car. When I connect using the BMW Y-adapter, I get the playlist and songs; however, I do not get any sound. I connected my ipod classic (80GB) with the Apple supplied USB cable and it works great. I tried using the Apple USB cable on both the iphone and iTouch and the car can not read neither device it states "not a supported device".
I am going to take the car back to the dealer and have them check it out.
Note: The iphone and iTouch only works in the USB connector located in the center armrest.
my 550 started production on 23-Aug, with a completion date of 2-Sep. The website shows a "production date" of 2-Sep. I'm really hoping for the idrive updates.
I use Pandora and Slacker radio on my iPhone frequently, the ability to stream this over bluetooth would be a lot better than always messing with the Y-cable.
i cant believe how stupid they are to add a feature three months after a car comes out and leave many of us stuck without features...this really makes me annoyed...they should be forced to retrofit this into our vehicles. This is really a scam imo. i could see if it was a new model year but come on.
I don't care for the bluetooth streamming or the iPhone/iPod cover art or single cable, I want BLACKBERRY OFFICE!!! Hopefully that will be only a software upgrade instead of hardware... If not, I will see what I need to do to have a true 2011 535...
i read the download it said office via a sim card installed in car....not sure why they are doing this with a new release car....i would think all fixes would be vias software not hardware...i would see if you had a 2010 and they changed it for 2011 but inside the year it seems strange....i would like to see what i can do to have a true 2011 as well....stereo bt and album art seem like software things to me...and if the car can go online via the assist google search i am sure it can do that via gprs connection....seems starange that they wouldnt have a firmware upgrade for idrive that would add these features.
anyone know how to check what version our cars run?? i know in the old 5 you could press a certain combo of buttons and it would happen.
Just cheked my bmw search for stock mkt etc...got curious tried email login...didn't work...called bmw assist they said all features will be available they just aren't enabled yet...dealer will know more but most would be available via software update...
