I have a 3 series e46 convertible and would like to install a subwoofer. I understand that the H.K subs are fitted into the ski pass, which means I can happily install an aftermarket one there also. I have no idea what subwoofer i should be looking at, to place into the ski pass. I mean is it a square one a round one, what are the dimensions. I already have an amp i can use, and just need help in confiming what type of aftermarket sub i need.
Welcome aboard. :hi: You have been officially welcomed to the 'Fest. Post your question in the audio or DIY forum. You'll get a better response there.
your main thing is finding a speaker that needs little air space.
you the ones that i have seen use a 10" sub for the skipass
check this link out this is the install for the BSW system. http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/product-extras/BMW_E46_Subwoofer_Install_-_ib110_E46_Convertible_99-06.pdf
i am going to do something similar but like you i will probably do something custome since i installed custom stereos for for a few years.
but this will give you an idea on how it works and how to track the wires down.
if you are using an existing amplifier you will need a "line drop" or a "hi to low filter" this will make you be able to splice in to the wires like they do in that kit.
good luck!
