Powdercoat Brake Calipers

Hey gang. I'm new to this site. I just bought my 2012 550i today! I had them powder coat my wheels dark platinum - almost black, but not quite.

I considered having them paint the calipers red, but I decided to wait. I have three questions for anyone knowledgeable in this area
-Do you guys think it looks better as is...or red.... OR...(drum roll) white?!
-Do these OEM calipers look good painted? Has anyone on this site done it?
-How expensive?
- Any suggested shops in Dallas?

Thanks!!

IMHO.... leave them alone. I have painted calipers on my past Porsches with great success. I decided to paint my F10s blue and found that it didn't look good at all. Red would be no better.

Here is a link to my past posting on the subject with photos.

I would leave them as is. It seems some BMW dealers and BMW corporate will not honor warranties on brake systems that have painted calipers. Please see http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=634080 for further details.

Just read the post. Another good reason to leave them be.

Thanks guys! Good info!! Chuck, you'e right. Once I saw them on your post, it just doesn't look right. I assume you guys know the new M5 will have blue calipers, but I believe the wheel will be an inch bigger and the calipers seem more compact resulting in a more subtle look

I think that that particular case is "normal", regardless of the paint.

I had sticky calipers before, under warranty, and calipers full OEM/not painted and still my local dealer did not replace the caliper. They cleaned it, and still was sticking and still refused to replace it. I end it up replacing the calipers with aftermarket Rotoras.

I do not see any problem in painting calipers if you know what you are doing. However, if you are an OEM warranty person -a person that worries a lot of losing the warranty for even replacing your floormats- then just do not do any modification in your car. Leave it stock... and still you may have warranty issues depending on your local dealer business attitude.
