My Infiniti lease is coming to term and I am loving the 535i GT. I've always wanted the G35/G37 coupe but after 3 years I am so itching to get out of it. I'm 6'4" and the G37 is tiny. I just stumbled across the 535i GT about two months ago after seeing one on the road and love it. I've test driven two of them, a 535i and a 550i and am looking to get a 535i very soon.
I'm working with a few dealers to get pricing but I just asked them a question two days ago and nobody has answered yet. If I wanted to order a 2013 GT, what is the last date that order can be made? (or is it too late already?) I don't need a 2014 and as I understand it, there is a $1700 base price increase. I'm not going to be able to find the car equipped in inventory as I want it: Alpine white, white and black interior with luxury seating package, driver assistance package, value package. I'm also considering the M sport package but reconciling the price for what you get. The sticking point seems to be the luxury seating package - most configs at the dealers don't have it and it is a MUST for me. I honestly don't understand why heated seats are widely available in Florida but this option is not.
Any feedback about the 2013 versus 2014 issue is appreciated! I can order right away if I still have time to get a 2013 and then I'll be part of this family!
Yeah, July is pretty much the changeover time in the factory...most of Europe is on vacation either July or August, and it's hard to get much done with a manufacturer IMHO. They've started orders for the 2014's, so unless you get one of the last ones off the assembly line, you're looking at a 2014. As I understand it, there are no more slots available for 2013. Now, the dealer can search the database for a vehicle with the options you want, and he might find one. Then, it comes down to whether the assigned dealer is willing to make a swap. FWIW, the dealers don't typically push this model (I think they got burned on the intro with heavily optioned 550 models, RWD only at the beginning) and never recovered after leaving a bad taste in their mouth. They are a unique vehicle, and I think they'd sell more if they had more around and played up the benefits.
If you can swing it, you get a pretty decent, no haggle discount if you order and pick it up in Munich (plus, you can negotiate that as well). But, if you can find a 2013 in stock, the end of the model year discounts can make that still look quite expensive. One other thing, though, about ordering verses buying one from stock...you can customize it more when you order it - the dealer cannot do this for an 'unsold' vehicle for stock, only when it is assigned to an end user/purchaser.
Thanks for the replies! I have learned so much on this forum already. I'm committed to getting a new GT so if it's a 2014 then so be it. I noticed BMW just changed the lease deal for the month of July and now offers a $1500 incentive so that should eat up the price increase.
So if you go to Munich to "pick it up" do they still deliver it to the dealer of your choice?
YES! While there, you can drop it off at a bunch of places around Europe, or even just sign for it, pay them an extra $75 or so, and they'll drive it to the Munich airport and start it on the way to you in the states (should you not want to drive it there yourself). The European delivery includes temporary plates and insurance for (I think it is 15-days) (but not a full tank of gas!). Or, you can choose to have it delivered to the PDC in SC where they'll pay for a night in the hotel, meals, a tour of the factory there, a few hours on the track (group, but you get your own vehicle to drive...not YOUR car, but a similar one you can abuse), and if you didn't already drive it in Europe, an introduction to your car. On a car you order, you can use either or both of these options. This is FREE, but you have to get there, then drive home. Good for you and a friend.
I have had a 535GtT for 2 years now and love it. On any model be careful about the M package. That includes narrow profile tires and if you live in a city with lots of potholes you arevatvrisk of tire and wheel damage. In RI we have numerous potholes and inadequate city budgets to fix them. Originally had a 535 sedan with M package and lost 3 tires. Very bothersome as replacements were not immediately bavailable. Without the snow we get you are probably better off in Florida. I trased the sedan for the GT which is much more comfortable and has a gigantic rear seat as well. I omitted the M package and have not had any tire issues for 2 years.
Thanks for the info on the M package and tire/wheel issues. Our roads in FL are in pretty good shape I think, at least that's the impression I get after driving most places up north.
After doing a lot more research I think the dollars that the M Sport package would cost would be better off spent toward the dynamic handling package. I'll have to see once I get into the nitty gritty with the numbers as I might be nearing my limit for what I care to spend on a car.
FL GT,
1) M sport pkg add a lot of things to the car and i live in NY and commute daily to the pot holed roads of NYC, 22K on my 19" low profile tires and no issues... there had definitely been a lot of issues with the original OEM 19" tires on 5 series M sports but i think modifications to the tires has reduced issues greatly...
The one thing i will say (and understand i love my GT and came out of a X5) the GT is MUCH bigger then an infiniti G37 MUCH... take a long and perhaps multiple test drives....
I have a friend that bought the GT because he LOVED mine, he too came out of a G37, he keeps hitting his back right tire when he makes right hand turns, he just can't seem to grasp the size of the GT
good luck... also maybe look at the 3 series gt in a few weeks...it maybe the perfect balance between where you are and where you want to go...

Thanks for the feedback. Very few 2013s left out there so one under consideration has the M Sport package. It has the 20" wheels too! I think it will be safe here - our roads in FL are generally in decent shape.
When I test drove the 535i two weeks ago, I parked the car at the dealership and was squarely in the space. I think that was a sign from above that this is the right car for me. Now the issue has turned to getting a good deal as I will be pressed to wait for the 2014 MY.
After negotiating with three dealerships, two of them heavily, I got the price of a loaded 2013 535i GT down to where I felt it should be! I'll be picking it up tomorrow and will post pics and give other details as soon as I can. It's Alpine white with gray interior and has value, premium, drivers assist, M sport, heated seats, multi-contour seats, 20in wheels and high fidelity sound! MSRP of almost $69K and I got them to almost $1800 UNDER invoice! Stipulation was that I give them top scores on survey.
Funny part is I started off wanting ventilated seating and did not wind up getting that feature. But the A/C seems so powerful in the car and the leather is light so should be fine in the Florida heat. Plus, this is my first white car which should help keep it cool as well. I fell in love with the M trim and the drivers assist features and felt they were more important. Plus, the high fidelity sound is a huge improvement over the base system and wanted that also.
Of the two dealerships, the one I'm leasing from was very straightforward with the numbers in how presented. The other has a format that was incomprehensible. So I'm fine giving them high survey scores just for being upfront to start.
Here are the only pics I snapped before it got dark out. I spent time programming the home link and playing with the settings and the next thing it was dark.
I think you are right, it would look good. I've been offered tinting for other leased cars so I think that is allowed, but not sure if I will do it right away. Just driving to lunch today, got a lot of turned heads!
Very nice. Tinting will be a nice addition.
Enjoy.
