I am new to BMW ownership and now have a 2006 Z4 3.0i. I am having some odd behavior from the xenon headlights. Sometimes one comes on, sometimes both, sometimes the other. When I have only one light, the bulb warning is on. I sometimes hear a clicking sound from the area of the fuse box.
My first step is going to be to change the fuse but if anyone has run into this before I would be very grateful to hear about any solutions.
Since buying my 2006 Z4 M Roadster about 5 weeks ago I've had the bulb warning twice. The first time I wasn't able to check out what the problem was but when I came back to the car and restarted it the bulb warning was gone.
Second time my wife and I were out one night and the bulb warning came on. She got out and walked around the car and determined that the right front headlamp wasn't on. When we got back into the car and restarted it, the headlamp was working fine and the bulb warning was gone. Since it hasn't happened frequently I haven't bothered troubleshooting this any further.
It's your ballast. I've replaced two so far. Im running a hid kit from ddm tuning. I bough a couple extra bulbs and ballasts for back up. When ordering from ddm you also need a code eliminator to get rid of the light warning on the cluster. Hid's can be a pain
Thanks everyone. I am still not getting my problem. Right now both sides are working and the trouble light has gone out on its own without any reset (the exterior lamp/bulb one). Can it still be the bulbs if they work sometimes? Can it be the ballast when it is first one side out then the other, or does that just mean they are both wonky?
I hate to start replacing parts before I have a better idea what I am dealing with.
I had the same issue with 2006. I found that by turning the lights off and then pack on via the switch the lights would come on. I got dome input from the group I run with and was told to do a power reset. Remove the negative terminal from the battery for 20 min. and then reconnect it. Be ready to turn your alarm off if you have one and you will need to reset your radio stations. I do not know why, but, I have not had the issue since and it has bee 2 years. My $0.02 worth. Try it before you spend cash.
