I purchased a BMW battery charger several years ago that has a plug to go into a 12V accessory (lighter) socket. Anyone know if that could be used with the X3, or must you use one that has alligator clips to connect under the hood like what is now the only product shown on the BMWUSA site? You'll need to use alligator clips. The lighter socket deactivates after a short period of time. If you can find a charger that connects to the ODB-II port then that would work. There is at least one model of solar trickle charger sold in Europe that connects to the ODB-II port, but I haven't seen one on this side of the pond.

Thanks, I think I remember reading some post somewhere about the accessory socket shutting down (maybe it was about radar detectors or something). I just remembered I purchased a Battery Tender Plus to charge the battery for my generator's electric start. It has alligator clips. I'll check the specs on it.
