Your asking if they hold together. There are very few cars that can hold it together like an E34. if well maintained of course.

They are exceptionally well built, there are rumours of these cars being used as taxi's in the EU with over 1,000,000 km on them and I can well believe it.

As for the not much to look at, they do tend to look "dated" dont they, but, a nice ACS kit, a drop, set of mpars, set of clears all round and a HID conversion, OMFG old skewl awesomeness.

I drive an E65 as well, but to be honest I really cannot decide some times what to drive, as I drive both cars on a regular basis, I dont believe in parking cars off, and my E34 has not dropped me once.

They are fantastic cars, and I'll never trade my E34 for love nor money, even if it is 16 years old :) The E65 is going to get traded soon for an E60 550, and I'll prob sell that one again before I consider getting rid of my E34

My '89 BMW 535i/A (AKA Natasha)

Well here is my baby. I got her for $2000 back in 2007. she currently has 219xxx miles on her and still runs like a BMW. she does burn oil but nothing a new head cover gasket cant fix. she is all stock except for the Dinan Performance Chip. so she currently (according to Dinan) pushes 222 hp with the Dinan chip (stock is 298hp). other than that i got her new tail lights as the old tail light were damaged. I plan on restoring her to original spec. interior needs some work and she currently only needs a new head cover gasket and her valves adjusted along with a good engine bay cleaning.

are you going to be redoing your own headliner and panels or are you going to have someone to do it?

i think im gonna be doing my own headliner but my door panels im gonna have someone do it..i dont feel comfortable enough with door panels yet.

ill be doing my valve cover gasket hopefully this weekend and adjusting my valves as well.....

The powers of craigslist...lol I heard about this guy that started out with a cell phone and posted ads on craigslist to trade, he eventually worked his way up to a porche just from trading a cell phone. So I figured I would give it a try, I started out with a Chevy 1500 I built and traded for a 2000 GMC Jimmy, I sold the jimmy for $2800 and a boxer pup, bought the Bimmer for $2500, made 300 cash. Then the guy i traded the truck to called and wanted me to buy it back cause he had an issue starting it, I agreed (knowing i just built the engine and installed a new transmission) for $700.00. When i went to pick it up found that one single wire came loose from the distributor, pluged it back and and drove it home. I don't get this luck very often....

Ya the headliner I might do on my own. It's a pain when I wash her or it rains. Really an issue as the car is pretty mint for it's age. Just picked up a tire tonite I have the 275/35 rz18s. So they are pricey. Luckily found me a used one in great shape for 65 bucks! My interior situation is weird as the previous owner did some m5 trim mods which are starting to show their age. I also need a new exhaust system which ouch! Will cost me big.

yeah no doubt about $$$ tires man... i need 4 new 225/55/r16 which are Goodyears top of the line touring for $560. guy said they are super quite and great milage on them. but then i got quoted on some "hurcules" for $349 out the door......

after that i might do rotors and pads but for now...i still get tons of compliments on her even how shes stands now....im real happy with her...i think my 08 toyota matrix XR (blueberry, because she has the speedway blue on her) is getting jealous cause im giving my BMR all the attention now lol

I bought my 540 with a similar story, paid about R13,500 for it which is about $1,400 (which is really cheap for south Africa) as the cars book value is $4600, and that included 5L of the expensive OEM gearbox oil due to a believed gearbox failure. Cost me like $30 for have the altenator rebuilt :)

yeah pads and rotors...i want to go with the slotted rotors and ceramic pads from "Red Stuff" the valve job ill be doing my self, i got my repair manual today, and ill be replacing the valve cover gasket myself as well. they quoted me $16 for the gasket and im guessing like $3-8 for the guages to measure my valves. beats the $150 my mechanic quated me which ive heard is actually really cheap for that service and knowing hes a european car specialist.

its crazy how many similiar issues you (ryan5series) and me have bro. my AC dosent work either...well it blows but not cold. the fan up front of the car works but i might just need a recharge. also the other day i wanted to snoop around on my cabin air filter location and when i had everything opened up i looked up toward the back of the on board computer and right behind that there was this metal rod and it had a black squared plastic box attached to the end and it looked as if bits of the plastic were broken.....couldent figure out what it was but im gonna look into it now that i have my repair manual.

ill definetly keep you posted on the progress. keep me updated with your progress as well.

Alright here are a few pics of my newly painted interior.. the under half that was very light gray and dirt is now a nice shade of black. Seats and doors are next on the agenda. Also the wrapping of new cow on my seats will be a great add. And as you can see in some of the pics, as much as I try to clean this, it just needs to be replaced.

You guys wanna hear the messed up way I got my 530? That 700 is a ridiculously good deal.

I ended up getting a old work van from a tv station that was going to junk it... it was a 1990 and had 50k miles on it.. everything was brand new in it.. not me though since I was just getting rid of my IS300

I had to pay $50 to tow this van back because it sat for a year... shopped around on craigslist and ended up finding my 530i... traded straight up for it. So technically it cost me $50 but if you dont count the tow it was all free... sometimes things happen... now if I could just find a pot of gold the same way..
