I'm looking to purchase a new 2015 x1 and I'm looking for a little guidance on pricing.
I have configured the vehicle with Metallic paint - Ultimate and cold weather packages and Fineline Woodtrim - list with destination is @ $ 41525.
Dealer offer is at $ 38550 which includes the Un4gettable $1000 certificate. Based upon your knowledge would you consider this a good price? My dealer is telling me that his invoice is at 7%, which is entirely different from my many builds on the internet which places dealer invoicing at 8%. My initial offer to the dealer was $ 37,700, which he countered at $ 38550 price.
Since the vehicle must be delivered within the sixty days of the test drive he called to inform me that the car that was available was no longer available. Since there wasn't any vehicles in the pipeline with my original options, he was able to find one with everything but the fineline trim. This vehicle could be delivered by the end of the month. This $500 reduction brings his offer to $ 37850 off the MSRP of $ 41025. I feel I should counter at $ 37,200.
I just feel that his numbers are a little off especially with the $1000.00 certificate. I think I should get as close to invoice as possible and then further reduce that by the $ 1000.
Find me a dealer in Texas that gives any discount off sticker. I got Euro delivery to get anything off, and luckily that $2100. paid a trip we wanted anyway.
You are within a few hundred dollars. Since this 2015's are just out, they may be less open to dealing. Note that many of the online invoice pricing doesn't include the dealers advertising fee they must pay to BMW USA. Check Truecar.com to see what they say about recent sales.
try carsdirect.com price which shows $700 over invoice for 2015 for my zip code but they'd still need to find your car which might not be available. With the $1,000 certificate that means $300 under invoice.
Thanks for everyone's input...I finalized the deal this afternoon with the dealer for invoice price, actually just under at $ 37305. Try as I might I wasn't able to budge him for any more than that. I am actually okay with the final price and look forward to the new addition.
I investigated the carsdirect.com website and realized that I really didn't do too bad with the deal. Their invoice pricing is $ 37320 which is indicative of a 6.5% discount...with the $1000 incentive additional reduction the discount climbed to over 9%. So I really can't complain.
Wow, congrats on the great deal! Does that mean you took $1,000 off the $37,305 and netted out at $36,305 final cost out-of-pocket?
A few questions regarding the The Un4gettable Test Drive $1K discount:
Can you use the certificate at a different dealer than where you did the test drive?
How long does it take to get the certificate after the test drive?
When negotiating, can you mention the certificate after you get to the final rock bottom price, or do you need to mention it in advance?
Is the certificate valid to use just for cars off the lot, or can you use if for a car that you order from the factory?
Thanks for any input you can provide! I'm looking get an X1 soon. I was going to hope for some sweet month-end/quarter-end deals in June. One dealer quoted me $37,450 for the same config you had, but for a car off-the-lot, not pre-ordering.
If I can get a $1K additional discount, there is a test drive event happening in July. The only thing is that I'm not finding the color-combos and configs for a car off the lot (plus I may want to order paddle shifters) so I might go for a factory order...don't know if I can use the certificate for that.
A couple of things...I made a typo on the invoice cost - it should be $ 38320 and not $ 37320. Sorry about that. My purchase price with the additional discount is correct at $ 37,305. I'm sure the dealer still made a few bucks on the deal, which I totally expected. I made an initial offer for the vehicle in the $ 36,500 area but he told my that would be impossible. Here in St. Louis this vehicle is in high demand. Hardly any dealer within 200 miles has many 2015 models so you have to settle with vehicles already in the pipeline and hope you get what you'd like. Fortunately for me the only option I wanted and didn't get was the Fineline wood trim.
As far as I know the Un4gettable Test Drive Certificate can be used at any dealer. I do know that my dealer offered the drive on the 14th and another dealer not too far away had their drive yesterday. Since the dealer I dealt with was the same dealer he already was aware of the my attendance and therefore knew in advance I would use the certificate. My purchase order actually reflects the certificate as part of my overall discount. You should check your email or the dealer to be sure.
Now having said that I didn't actually receive any piece of paper but I did have a special number to identify my participation in the event. The number was issued by BMW of North America.
The kicker with the certificate is that the vehicle has to be delivered within 60 days of the certificate to be valid. There's the dilemma. If the car isn't on the lot you have to place an order and there is no guarantee that the car can be delivered within the 60 days. The dealer had to investigate his alotment to see if anything similar to my options would be in within that time frame. Fortunately for me there are three vehicles in the pipeline and he will commit one of them to me early this week.
He initially indicated that I could conceivably have the vehicle by the end of the month, but when we closed the deal on Friday he said that vehicle was already committed to someone and I should expect delivery on the others by the end of July or early August...so we'll see.
My salesman told me that the discount couldn't be used for cars already ordered or sold. He did however say that his dealership was pretty much ignoring that policy and delaying sales in order to comply. It would be crappy to strike a deal only to realize that this event was coming up and you couldn't take advantage of it.
Your deal sounds really good and would be fantastic if you could get the additional $ 1000 off your price of $ 37,450.

Thanks BaxTax! Appreciate the pricing clarification and the info about the certificate - especially the caveat about delivery within 60 days.
I signed up for a test drive in early July, so I'll have to wait and see what the fine print says on my coupon. It's possible I might "lose" the vehicle that the dealer was offering at a low price since it could be sold by then. Luckily, I'm in a metro-suburban area which has a lot of BMW dealers so I have several options and don't mind traveling to get a good deal.
Plus, if I can get a good price on a factory order I'd like to go that route since the on-the-lot vehicle was not my ideal color, and I'd like to get paddle-shifters. That's only going to happen if I order from the factory.
FYI, I applied for a loan at DCU (Digital Credit Union) and they were very professional and seem like a good outfit. The rate was even better than PenFed's. I can get 1.74% APR for 60 months, or lower it to 1.24% if I choose to direct deposit my work check into their savings/checking account. Pretty good rate.
At this point, I'll be all set once I get my $1K certificate in July...just have to find a dealership which will work out a good price for me.
