Just ordered 550 X-Drive

Hi all, I have a 2009 535 X-Drive, which I will be trading in for a 2013 550 X-Drive, likely in October when the car arrives. I've been reading this sub-forum and seeing the good and the bad. I test drove the 550, and it was everything I wanted for a family car, with a little bit of kick. Below are the options I ordered:

Black with anthracite wood trim and cinnamon brown
Cold weather pkg
Driver assist pkg
Executive pkg with night vision
M-sport pkg
Bang & Olufsen

I will post pictures once I take delivery. Cheers!

Congrats. Looks like a great build! Hopefully we'll know if you have 400 or 445hp by that time!

Congratulations you will love the car. I have found that conventional tires and Dinan springs vastly improve the handling (the springs) and ride comfort (conventional tires) to BMW perfect. To me, these are must have mods.

I also got the Dinan Stage 2 tune to boost bhp and torque. It is a thrilling mod but not as necessary as the springs and conventional tires.

Based on the reviews, you might be able to skip the B&O unless you have really good source material. If you look here and in the 6 series forum, it looks like it does a lot to show the flaws of lower quality source material.

I would suggest Nappa, but you can't get Cinnamon Nappa.

I was in my Montreal dealership on Friday negotiating flip for our '09 535 x-drive and X5 3.0 for '13 550 Msport and a X5 3.5 sales guy said November/December 550 deliveries would have N63Tu. I asked for something in writing. Still miss my '03 540i E39 6 speed.

My car is to be delivered in October so it may not have the N63Tu engine. The 400 hp car I test drove had plenty of power, so I'm not particularly concerned about the additional 45 hps. It has more than enough power for a family car.

I'm going to have to agree with sdg on the tires. I placed larger non-rft tires on my 550 m sport like he did and it's a softer ride - much more tolerant of the NYC road craters. I compare my ride to my father's 2011 550 sport - he replaced 3 tires in less than 2000 miles (and he doesn't drive like a madman).

i'm waiting for my 2012 19" tires to blow. accordint to records the 2012 tire should have received the new Goodyear RFT's. Granted I only have 1400 miles on them by everone's input I should have blown some tires. I've driven through heavy suburban and interstate contscruction areas.

i'm running 38/39 psi when cold per placard. Seriously, I hope I don't have I problem. I promise to squelch when I do. I've run through some really bad areas that I think would rival the NYC area. We have serously bad areas given construction, and the winter that we receive in the Great Lakes. As I have problems I'll report. So far no out of balance, and no bubbles. I'll be the first to report problems. Maybe my shipment included the upgraded Goodyear RFT tires--I hope so since I bought the tire and wheel warranty. I inspect the tires weekly and I travel a lot of roads under construction with decent 2" drop-offs and lots of drain basin construction.

I have purely horrible roads and will report in on a bad situation. So far, my tires are alive. I have to doubt NYC or NJ construction is worse than my own--just a block down a road has been ripped up for 2 months while a township is reconstructing it. I have to travel it and avoid as much as I can. Maybe there some truth that Goodyear re-constructed the Gen 2 tires. I don't want a flat but would truly like to see if my tires can handle the summer rebuild season. The next phase will be laying the top-coat. Knowing the townships, they like to leave 1-2" drops--we'll see how the wheels and tires hold up.

Thanks. I would appreciate hearing about how your RFTs perform. My 2013 550 will come with 19 inch RFTs, and from what I've read on this forum, I am a little concerned. Maybe they did improve the quality, but we shall see.
