I have my first BMW on order with a production date next week. I have settled on the Deep Sea Blue Metalic for the exterior with Black interior. However, I am contemplating the new Mojave brown for the interior, but my dealer does not have any samples of the Mojave on the lot. He did confirm with BMW designers that the Mojave was developed for the White, Bronze and Blue exterior colors.
Does anyone have a Mojave Interior with the Deep Sea Blue metalic? If so what interior trim package did you go with? And what do you think of the color combination?
Personally, I do not like either the black or the mojave interior with deep sea blue. I saw a deep sea blue/mojave X3 in a showroom and I didn't care for it at all. I think a darker exterior color (such as deep sea blue) looks best with a lighter interior (oyster or sand beige). With aesthetics, contrast is everything. Dark exterior with light interior, or light exterior with dark interior works. Light on light or dark on dark don't compliment each other nearly as well IMHO.
My X3 has the black sapphire metallic exterior with the sand beige interior and dark wave wood trim. The contrast between the very dark exterior and the light interior works. Also, the contrast between the light sand beige and the dark wave wood trim also works very well. I thought it looked good in the pictures on the BMW website and it looks even better in person.
Obviously, this is taste-specific. This is only my opinion. As I said, you should go with what pleases you and makes you the most comfortable. I am only offering a different perspective.
Once again I'll be unpopular and the devils advocate - this is not like buying a suit you love the color of, it is a consumable that sooner or later you may want to sell. There is a very low install rate on brown/blue....but as everyone says, get what you want if you are going to bury the car and keep it. If it's a lease get it in any color you want as you don't own it!
most exterior blues take a grey, black or tan leather interior....a good rule of thumb is "would the dealer order it for stock?"
as a former dealer and watching many people make decisions they did not understand long term, I would rather have people say -
"Yes I realize it might affect my resale - to he** with that, I like it!"
Rather than -
"I wish the sales guy would have told me I needed a sunroof and a popular color combo back when I bought it"
As I see more of the latter, I post here for your discussion.
I ordered a deep sea blue with mojave and wave wood earlier this month. It's waiting for me and my wife to pick it up at PCD. My wife picked the colors because she wanted something that didn't contrast too much (she loves the contrast stitching though), but was a little different (mojave) than most of what was out there. Her take is that you aren't really experiencing the outside and inside at the same time anyway. We asked our sales person and she told us another customer ordered the same combo and it looked great. We also got to see the mojave interior on a 28i with white paint and the lighter wood and really liked it. I was voting for blue water metallic, oyster and siena, but she'll be the primary driver. We were warned by several people that the oyster looks dirty very easily.
Like guitarpath said, go with what you like. If the designers are saying the colors were designed for each other you really can't go wrong.
As an owner of a mojave interior, I can tell you the interior color really personalizes the car. That being said, I am not sure how well it would contrast the deep blue because of the richnes of the color...the brown color with the tan stitching might be too much.
I too considered ordering the mohave, but because the dealer didn't have a sample, I decided to go with the oyster. I can't understand why the dealers aren't provided with large samples like you would see in a furniture store.
They didnt have a sample when we ordered ours...we based it on the tobacco sample from the X5...My wife was sold on mineral silver so we rolled the dice..First time we saw mojave is when the dealer called us when the car came in...
I wouldn't consider buying a $2000 leather chair without a sample, so why would I purchase a $50,000 car without a leather sample? IMO BMW should have some samples available.
It's a car...nothing more and nothing less. In 2005, I bought a Ford f150 King Ranch edition..I believe it was one of the first ones in connecticut, bought that one sight unseen as well. After about 3 weeks, you don't even notice the colors anymore....
Every dealer has a color swatch kit that comes prior to the car launch. Could the samples be bigger? Yes...but they do have them. And if they don't, the dealer has lost them - which happens quite often the way sales people take them to their desk, etc...
