Hey guys, Im new to this forum but no stranger to it...

Let me start of by saying I am curreny a high school senior, about to graduate in june. Time has come to pick out a car...

For the past 6 YEARS ive been obsesing over e46 since I SAW it since need for speed came out, but i dont have that type of money.

I want to buy a E36.. posibly a sedan 98 but realisticly any..

For the past six moths, ive been working my as* of. Ive saved almost 2000 dollars. I know theres alot of young m3 drivers like myself and many older on this forum, so i ask you this....

How do i convise my parents? Its a M3! Insurance? Reliability?

*-I told them i wanted an rsx, BUT it just dosnt have enough history and plus most of them that ive found online.. have been modded terribly, droped..ect

*-maintaince.. Ive been around cars since i was 12, so i know a few things about car and im pretty good with my hands. I can easily do fluild service.. replace parts, gaskets and spark plugs, for gods sake i can weld anything on it:p

*-or convince me to stay away?

Sorry for all errors, typing on a phone is never fun

Bad idea. Save your money, like you're already doing. Get a 328is and continue to save money. Do all of the driver education stuff you can, like the BMW CCA does. You can get into plenty of trouble with a 328is, so start there.

I'm 19 and spent 6k on a 95 m3, and it's my dream car! I drove a ford truck for the past 2 years and what a difference. I still have to replace the entire cooling system and such so 2000 isn't going to get you anything. If you really want one like I did you have to work and save for it.

I'm new to the forum but not to cars and I would tell you to get yourself a cheapo beater for now. (like a ford escort or honda- cheap on fuel, insurance, maintenance, etc.)--- Then save your cash for a few years until you can buy a decent used model... (the extra time will let you build up a nice chunk of change and will establish your GOOD DRIVING record which will go a long way to lowering your premiums later on)

$2k won't buy you much in terms of car parts (not just BMW) and surely won't buy you a decent BMW. Something that cheap will nickel and dime you to death with a multitude of issues.

Good Luck to you!

You should try to look for an acura integra, they are pretty good. How about a ford focus? An M3 is probably a little too impractical for your first car, something that is not german made will be cheaper to maintain for a couple of years and won't be that bad. Your first car doesn't need to be the coolest car in town since statistically you are more likely to get in an accident now than in 3 or 4 years.

Oh, the integra was the car the rsx replaced if you didn't know, plus they are much cheaper.

I got my first M3 when i was 20, i have spend over 7$ in my car already im bout to be 22 in september, yes i like to race and drift, i have replaced clutch and fly wheel twice, i have broken 2 differentials and 4 differential cases, i have replaced all control arms sway bars bushings, drive shaft, i have removed all the rust out of my car and i have done modifications to it, i estimate 7000$ it can be more, and i dont work on the car my self i take it to a trusted shop that i know my car being worked good, im just a young mexican with no job, most of the money comes from racing.. alot of racers in my city underestimate my m3, so i race for me 500$ to 2000$ at times ppl that dont have much money will throw races for 50 to 100$ but ill race anybody, theres alot of 350z 2013 v6 mustangs and challengers, chargers ppl that think there v6 2013 can beat my old school m3, yea im taking there money out there pokets its fun, i mean anyone can do this is not difficult..
