I took my bmw to a bmw specialist mechanic for an oil change and several other things as well... Thinking they were gonna use bmw products... However in the receipt I noticed under oil change it said "synthetic oil 5w-30 which is brand from Mobil I found out... They charged me $115 for oil and filter change... Is that good considering price?? Or should I be concerned they didn't use bmw oil??
Yeah for the price I paid I expected bmw oil... And also I trusted these guys... Even if it was the right Mobil like u guys named i probably would be a little mad but not as mad...
I pay $150 at my BMW dealer and they perform a full check up , fully hand wash and vacuum and I get to roll out with a loaner vehicle , I think 115 is fair and nothing to be pissed about IMO , if you want to budget on a oil change do it yourself next time , just my .2c
I is absolutely NOT necessary to use oil purchased from the BMW dealer. BMW does NOT make their own oil, just puts someone else's oil in their bottle. If I had to guess, BMW uses Castrol. Mobile 1 is fine.
If original poster is worried about the brand of oil, the more important concern is following the oil service indicated in the car. The mileage that BMW allows between oil changes is excessive and I recommend changing more often such as every 10k miles. You will be doing your engine and pocket book a favor in the long term.
