Squealing Brakes after 24000K of normal driving

The right rear brake oin a 15 month old 740il with 24000K squeals when brake pedal is pressed lightly. The sound stops when the pedal is fully depressed. The dealer tested the car for a few days, and then said the brake light had come on and the car now needs new brake pads! Is this possible after only driving the equivalent of 15,000 miles in normal driving conditions? It seems like a very short time for the brake pads to wear out. Any suggestions/advice will be very much appreciated.

They don't appear to receptive to that idea. It's a free market economy, but nothing is free.

I'd argue it's abnormal wear and tear (I could swear I just saw something on the BMWUSA site that mentioned the long lasting brakes?) I think it was under the 740 overview section where it mentions safety/driving etc, V/r, Tim

With the idea being you are driving "normally" and not mashing the breaks every day all the time....

15k miles is very low. Most likely they will find a sticking caliper (guides, piston, etc). If you can see them then look and see if the right rear is about the same thickness as the left rear. On your car, the rear sensor is on the right.
