I guess it all depends on what you call an "engine." My understanding is that the s52 weighs 100lbs more than the s14. I saw one web-site had s14 at 350lbs. I also saw on another web-site that an n52 engine weighs 354lbs. I don't know if these numbers on an apples/apples basis. If these numbers are correct, n52 could be a nice swap w/ little weight distribution penalty (although two more cylinders over the front axle). Anyone have these numbers? I'm obsessed with car/parts weight.
Yes, the S52 does weigh more. I need to get my car on corner scales, but it should be around 2,900 lbs. With a motor putting out around 275 hp, I think the 80 - 100 lbs increase is worth it.
It's an infrared picture. I bought a Hoya IR filter to capture the effect. B&H Photo sells the filters. (Less expensive than converting a camera to IR). You get some really interesting results, they vary by camera, exposure, settings, etc.
Renee, that's a fantastic looking M3! I'm new to the whole M3 thing. I'm going to keep my eyes open now and see how long it takes before I notice an E30 where I live. I have tripple black E36convertible and love it - especially now that the weather is nice and I can drop the top!
Car looks great. My g/f is looking at getting an E30 M3 as a weekend car (a little street, a little track - she already drives her E36 M3 better than most men I know, and that would still be her primary autox vehicle). She just signed up on S14.net, do you have any tips on this to look for or avoid?
S14 is a great place to start. Getting one with a strong motor or recent rebuild would be wise.
Good luck with your search! Hope she finds a good one.
