voltage readings on my car: car off---- 12.35 volts
car on----14.1-14.8 sometimes drops to 13.5
is this normal?
I'm havin the same problems as everyone else...when idling, car is ok, when driving dashboard lights up like a christmas tree, all kinds of erroneous failures and failsafes, then
car drives sluggish..from reading posts everybody suggests its either alternator or battery..
when i turn car off and immediately turn back on its ok for a few more miles then it gets worse....jus curious before takin to dealer.......average cost if its alternator or battery and what other possibilities.....love the car but DAMMMMM!!!!
We can swap IVMs just for the sake of eliminating it, but since it sounds like overvoltage, then your voltage regulator probably tanked. If you want to bring it over, we can hook it up to the computer and take a look at the faults and start there.
Whatever you guys do please let me know what you find. My car is doing the exact same thing. I replaced two batteries at the dealer, once I drive the car is fine for an hour or so. Afterward, just like the OP my car goes crazy on the dash lights, everything just blinks at me. Trans failsafe and other lights come on. I just ordered a new Alternator, hoping that fixes the issue. Is the voltage regulator apart of the alternator? And where is the power module located? This problem is intermittent as hell and hard to find. Here's the part I ordered

He was talking about the IVM (I've seen it called the integrated supply module, integrated voltage supply module, and a few other variations) --> see here. It's located in the engine compartment E-box along with the DME and Valvetronic control modules, and has a bunch of fuses on one side.
I have the same problem right now and I am in Kingwood, North Houston,. I have the same voltage and the same symptoms. I actually charged my battery last night and the lights went of for about 10 mins. I really think it is my battery. Let me know what you find out.
Will you please move to NYC after the winter is over?
Kindly,
josh (and all the other fellas up here in NYC I am sure).
