Singapore Airlines began flying the Airbus A380 superjumbo jet from New York JFK on Monday, swapping it for service on its JFK-Frankfurt route that the carrier previously flew with Boeing 777s.

Before Singapore airlines flew a380's on that route they flew 747. Also Singapore has some very good deals from JFK to Frankfurt

I'm flying an LH A380 in April. I sure hope they don't still have a crack problem at that point because then I'll miss out on the A380 and probably end up swapped back into one of their 747s. I'm actually very happy on 747s, but I admit to wanting to try out the A380 just once.

Update from Bloomberg

Quote:
Qantas Airways Ltd., Australia's largest carrier, suspended use of one of its Airbus SAS A380 passenger jets for as long as a week after discovering cracks in wing parts.

The aircraft has been grounded since Feb. 5, spokesman Thomas Woodward said by phone today. The plane, named Charles Kingsford Smith, has flown between 20 and 30 times since the cracks were first discovered Jan. 7 in routine checks by the airline after severe turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore, he said.

Let's hope they get the repairs done soon and figure out how to prevent future cracks. It would suck for the airlines flying the A380 if they had to do that kind of maintenance repeatedly, especially as the aircraft just aren't that old.

Airbus could have finally admitted to the problem, and a fix is possibly on the way.

Until then, keep your fingers crossed, pray, or whatever that makes you feel better when flying an A380.

Is it that hard to avoid climbing on board an A380?

There was a 1951 British movie called "No Highway in the Sky" that was based on a Neville Shute novel and was about commercial airliners that could potentiallyy crash due to metal fatigue fractures in the tail section,

JetBlue Airbus's mechanical meltdown sends it 'careering wildly through the skies' for FOUR hours

The 155 people on board the Las Vegas to New York flight were left terrified as the A320 aircraft lurched from side to side and went into steep turns after its hydraulic system failed.

Travis McGhie, a passenger on the Sunday afternoon flight, said: 'It was four hours of hell.'

Jetblue is what's known in the business as a "No Fly" airlines (Meaning even employees for Jetblue will book another flight before riding for free on their own Airbus fleet)

June 2012: Vomitorium for 5 hours after hydraulics go south.

April 2012: Two geese smash into plane windshield, forcing emergency landing at Westchester County Airport, New York.

March 2012: Argument breaks out mid-flight between two women, plane diverted over bomb-threat fears.

March 2012: Family with two young children kicked off a flight after a pilot refused to fly when their two-year-old daughter had a tantrum.

March 2012: Pilot Clayton Osbon has 'midair meltdown', ranting about Al Qaeda and Jesus.
September 2011: JetBlue pilot faces weapons possession charge after gun was found in his bag during a screening at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
2011: Flight from JFK to Aruba returns to airport after a 'very big bird', believed to be a turkey, sucked into the Airbus A320's engine

Come to your senses, people, book an airline flight with a Boeing fleet. (Even birds hate airbus!) This way, your relatives can blame me and 150,000 of us for inflight failure.
